It's Week Two, guys.
Yes, we lost to Burnley. But where did the fire go?
Where did the hope go?
It wasn't even that bad of a loss, compared to what happened to Stoke or how Arsenal's started off.
But already, there are people that have jumped off the Jürgen Klopp train and planted themselves firmly in the doubters area.
I'm not saying that every time we lose you should plaster a smile on your face and call it a great game and all that. But don't start blaming it on people that just stepped on the pitch or didn't have much of a pre season.
Or any experience with the other team.
Now that I write this, you may groan and call it a lazy excuse. It's not though.
I'm sure you'll remember that we did very well against the top half of the league. That's because Klopp has either gone against that manager, team, or both at least once in his career. Maybe he's just heard of them and that's enough. The bottom half, he wouldn't know a thing about. I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find a Bundesliga fan know about Newcastle too well before Rafa went there. So he'd need time to adjust and set up his team. He's had his one match to adjust and will with Burnley. Anfield will not be easy for them.
Again, I feel like some are missing out on the injuries part. Ragnar Klavan should not be playing. He shouldn't even be here. That's how absurd our injures got in the pre season. I don't need to remind you who's out, who's short on fitness, you probably remind yourselves.
And if you notice, a good few of those people slot into the first XI. Karius is still out, Sakho and Matip are going through their own thing, Can hasn't had much of a pre season because of Euros and the same for Origi. Imagine the scoreline now if we had those people at our disposal.
Can would be our defensive midfielder to stop so many of their runs. Sakho or Matip would have a much better understanding than Lovren but also have more skill than Klavan to stop it. Karius will also help with our problem of conceding the first shot on target. Or, at least, get us out of a rut. And Origi seems to be on his way of pushing Sturridge out of the team sheet, which is a big achievement for anyone.
But I have to warn you, if your optimism is gone now, I seriously fear for you. When we go against the likes of United and Chelsea, instead of being excited for a good match, you're instead praying we don't lose 6-0 or whatever and instead go out 3-1. That sounds utterly depressing, not even a realist would think that way about this team.
I thought we were called the "dark horses" this season. But I guess since Burnley knocked the stuffing out of us, we better hope we don't get relegated. Other teams will find us out now. Expect the worse. The book on our weakness is top of the bestsellers list, everyone knows now.
We'll get not a single clean sheets anymore. Even Everton is a league above us, we just don't have it. You're supposed to win a match when you have possession but I guess this squad is too dense to understand that.
Matip will never get better and just sit on the bench all year with Sakho at his side as they joke in French on how bad the defense is. Karius and Can might as well become models with how bad we're going to be.
Pack up your bags. Since we already have red kits, might as well just go to United. They seem to not have any problems. Two clean sheets in a row, two wins, big players. That's the model we should follow. Maybe Klopp will take a page or two out of Mourinho's book on how to spend.
The season is over.
Optimism is out and buying players to fix small problems is in. Klopp will get run over if he doesn't figure this out, which is dumb because I thought he was a good manager.
Oh well, watch at your own expense. Team spirit is overrated anyways.
