So I've been thinking about this for a while now...

So Wei Liu is Chinese, and in China they don't speak Japanese (at least not as a main language).

Now, English is a very widespread language, and is spoken worldwide. What if, before coming to Japan, Wei learned Japanese from books.

But not any books-the translated English version classics that were thrown away from bookstores. Then, he'd buy the Japanese version of the same story. Wei would get these for free, because no one really buys 'classics' anymore. He would then translate the sentences and figure out what each word means.

And that's why he talks as if he's from the medieval times...
