Dear Diary

I was amazed when I woke up this morning. The weather had warmed up again. It was almost too warm to stay in bed. Of course, I stayed in bed anyway. I made it to school on time, so everything worked out fine.

When I got to school, Bear suggested that I should talk to the guy that she had introduced me to again. I was going to anyway. As I was walking to my first class, Prey was with Intruder. They were almost inseparable these days. Why couldn't they just break up? It had been almost a week since I knew about it, wasn't it about time for them to break up. How long do these things last anyway?

During my study period, I found the guy and sat next to him.

"Hey" he said, greeting me. I responded back with a similar greeting.

He turned to look at me. He appeared to notice that I was planning my words, as he opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it again. He waited several moments to see if I would actually say something. I was still trying to choose the best way to go about asking him. I decided to just say it how it is.

"My friend and I have have a group called the Network of Spies, and would like you to be the third member. Are you interested?"

He looked startled.

"You what?"

"Join the Network of Spies". He seemed to take a step back.

"What do you do?". It was quite good of him to start there. It is, after all, a very logical question.

"We follow people. For the time being, the people we follow are for personal reasons, but we do eventually plan to sell our services as well."

He looked concerned.

"When you say follow people, is that like stalking?". I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. While Bear and I had not called it that before, we had both thought it.

"One could technically say that we do that, but we find that most people have negative feelings towards that". I tried to answer it as diplomatically as I could. If he did not join us, I had no idea what would happen. He could tell literally anybody, and everything would be over before we knew it.

Tentatively, he asked

"Why did you pick me to join?". This question was extremely to answer.

"For the most part, you superior skills in computers. I have seen what you are able to do and was very impressed. We are currently attempting to track down a laptop, which we know for a fact to be heavily encrypted. We will definitely need your help with that".

His face lit up. He obviously liked the sound of the computer challenge that we were sure to give him.

"Besides" I continued, "Bear has been speaking to you, and she thinks you are perfect."

"Bear?" he asked.

"We give everybody codenames" I explained.

"So, I get a code name, I get to help stalk, I mean follow" he quickly corrected himself, "I get to work with some tech AND I join a club!"

"Yes" I concluded.

"Sign me up!"

The Network of Spies grew to three.
