I looked toward the driveway at the sound of the purr of a Diesel engine.
Beside me, Zuke wagged his tail.
Phoenix turned his head, some strands of hay hanging out his mouth.
Blayze's Ute cruised down the drive.
He'd been in town to pick up some supplies and pick up Tameron who was due to stay for the weekend.
Only now did I start to feel a little nervous again.
Blayze and I had talked, talked and talked and finally figured it was time to let Tameron know that he was going to be a big brother.
Personally, I wanted to wait a bit longer.
But my siblings and my cousin's all knew and it would be better for Tameron to hear it from us than one of them.
"Hold still."
I urged Phoenix, keeping a hold of his tail which I was trying to brush the knot's out of.
Due to how wet the ground had been from our snowfall Wednesday morning, I'd held off from trying out my new saddle.
But I couldn't wait any longer.
Plus, for the last couple of days my baby had been super restless in my belly.
Mum suggested he or she might take after me and that a nice ride could help to settle him or her down.
I was certainly hoping so, because although it was nice to feel the kick's and movements, the circus my little one had put on almost all night wasn't so fun.
"Hi Bayey!"
I smiled in the direction of the feed shed, where Blayze had parked his car.
"Hey Tameron!"
I called back to the kid who looked pint sized next to Blayze's huge Ute.
"Did ya ride yet?"
Blayze asked, walking toward us and adjusting his hat on his head.
Tameron trailed behind him, laughing when Zuke bounded over to greet him with sloppy kisses.
I shook my head.
"Not yet. Heath's just finishing up an oil change on his car."
Blayze nodded.
"Righto."
I shot him a quick smile.
"I'd say you could just come with, but it's hardly fair to steal ya away from Tameron just yet."
"Just be careful."
He cautioned.
"Promise."
I told him, turning to dump my brush into my grooming bucket.
"Ready to be tacked up Phoenix?"
My horse turned his head to look at me with his big brown eyes.
"Is you gonna ride?"
I looked over my shoulder to see Tameron had sidled over to stand beside Blayze.
"She sure is."
Blayze told him, placing a hand atop the child's beanie covered head.
"Can we watch?"
Tameron asked, tilting his head to look way up at his Dad.
The poor kid barely reached much higher than Blayze's knee's, so he had a fair way to tilt his head back while he stood beside him.
"We will for a bit."
Blayze answered.
"But Bailey and Uncle Heath are probably gonna ride out."
"Out where?"
Oh boy...
With a shake of my head, I grabbed my saddle blanket off the top of my new saddle and set it into place on Phoenix's back.
"Out to the paddock's."
Blayze explained.
"Can I do that one day?"
Smiling, I turned back to the hitching rail to grab my saddle.
"One day."
Blayze agreed.
As it was, we were yet to get Tameron on even Nugget.
We'd offered and tried, but each time he'd bolted last minute.
Apparently when I'd sensed that Rikki wasn't entirely 'country', I was pretty on the money.
Blayze told me she'd only learned to ride when she attended a farm camp during summer when she was twelve.
She went back for the same camp when she was thirteen, then joined an agriculture class at school in year ten, which included riding in the second semester.
In year eleven she did work experience at a farm, because if she ever found Blayze again, she wanted to be able to impress him.
At least she'd admitted that part to him when she was drunk one time at a Rodeo.
To take a 'break' from study, she'd then gotten a job on a farm in the summer after year twelve.
So she could ride a bit.
She could fence a bit.
She could muster a bit.
But she wasn't exactly a blooded Cowgirl.
We wouldn't know who's genes Tameron had inherited most until we could get him on a pony.
"Alright Mister, lets see what you think of this new saddle."
I told Phoenix as I approached him with it.
He didn't even bother to take his head out of the hay bag to look.
"A saddle's a saddle to you I guess..."
With a shrug, I lifted the leather up over his back.
Blayze gave me a second opinion on the fit, checking places I wasn't as able to see due to my lack of height and I soon started to do up the girth.
"How soon are ya wanting to go?"
I stepped back from Phoenix, eyeing him over with the new saddle as Heath approached.
"Uncle Heath!"
Tameron exclaimed and ran for his legs.
"Hey champ!"
Heath greeted him, scooping him up by his underarms and propping him on his hip.
But he soon looked toward me, waiting on my answer.
"I'm about ready."
I told him.
"Just gotta arrange my stirrups."
"Righto, I'll go grab Western."
Heath said and bent to set Tameron back onto the floor.
Only now did I notice Tameron's bright green gumboots.
"Hey! Awesome boots Tameron!"
He grinned, hurrying over to give me a closer look.
"Do you want some?"
He asked, tilting his head back to look up at me.
Ha!
"Absolutely."
I told him, unable to not smile.
Tameron beamed up at me.
"I can tew my Mum you wants some!"
Awkward...
Like I need or want his Mum for anything!
I looked to Blayze, helpless on what I was meant to do right now.
"Bailey's got wellies for this year, but maybe next year she can get some cool green ones like your's mate."
Blayze chimed in.
Tameron frowned.
Uh oh...
Maybe we were meant to just pretend to agree with him?
"Them are white Dad."
White?
What's he on about?
Confused, I looked questioningly toward Blayze.
But he looked just as confused as me.
"Umm...mate they're green, in fact they're bright green."
Blayze said slowly.
"They white!"
Tameron yelled, stomping one boot covered foot.
Okay...
Blayze frowned and shook his head.
