"Blayze you have to go!"
I insisted, feeling my eyes wide.
Why was he even considering not going?!
"No, I don't."
He denied, turning on his boot heel to walk into the tack shed.
Stubborn bloody Cowboy!
With a growl of frustration, I turned the pram around and pushed it through the tack shed doorway.
"Yes you do!"
I insisted.
Blayze turned from hanging bridles onto their designated hook's along the side wall.
"You seriously think I would even consider going when Luka's so young?"
I frowned at him.
He think's he gets to get rid of us that easily?
"We'll come too!"
He faltered.
I saw it in his slightly taken aback expression, the widened eyes and slightly parted lips.
Finally he recollected himself and shook his head as if snapping himself back into reality.
"No."
He denied, placing his hands on his hips.
"Luka's four weeks old. That's a hell of a road trip. What if he takes after you and hates travelling?"
God he's going to find any excuse he can, isn't he!
I groaned, stomping a foot impatiently.
"Then we will deal."
I told him stubbornly.
We're talking about the Australian Profession Rodeo yearly banquet here, not some casual party.
He insists he's given up Rodeo now, which means he has to attend this shindig, because it's probably the last one he'll be invited to!
Blayze glanced at something behind me, then turned his gaze back onto me.
"No."
He stated stubbornly and turned back around to straighten the tack.
"You two aren't fighting, right?"
Grandpa!
He'll talk some sense into Blayze!
I turned around to find Grandpa standing just inside the tack shed doorway.
"Pa can you please tell Blayze he needs to do this?"
"Drop it Bailey."
Blayze warned.
Grandpa raised his eyebrows at me and shot a glance in Blayze's direction, before landing his green eyes back on me.
"I'm pretty sure Blayze can make up his own mind Darlin'."
For god sake!
"Thankyou."
Blayze said from behind me.
I placed my hands on my hips and frowned at my Grandpa.
Since when does he not even ask what's going on?!
Grandpa rolled his eyes at me.
"Alright you've got me. What are ya trynna twist his arm into?"
"Going to the APR banquet!"
I exclaimed, throwing my hands in the air.
Grandpa blinked at me and his gaze shot over my head in Blayze's direction.
"Blayze you gotta go, we all do."
"All?"
I guess Grandpa now had Blayze's attention too.
"I've been asked to induct the latest member into the Hall Of Fame."
Grandpa explained, his glance going between both Blayze and I.
I took the bait.
"Who's the member?!"
I asked, my eyes widening.
Grandpa looked around the tack shed, then moved to the doorway to look outside, before he approached Blayze and I and placed a finger to his lips, indicating a secret.
Oh boy!
I grew giddy with excitement.
"You cannot spill the beans."
Grandpa warned.
I mimicked zipping my lips together.
"It's Lukas."
Grandpa all but whispered.
"About fucken time!"
Blayze exclaimed.
"Ssssh!"
Grandpa hissed, shooting a worried glance towards the open doorway.
"He can't know!"
He hissed, turning back to us.
"If he doesn't know, how are you gonna get him to know?"
I asked, scrunching my brows in confusion.
Grandpa shrugged.
"Guess we'll just have to talk up the fact it's Blayze's last year as a competitor."
Blayze rolled his eyes, now standing beside me.
"That doesn't mean I'm gonna win anything."
"Lukas doesn't have to know that."
Grandpa shrugged.
We have to get Uncle Lukas to this banquet.
Over ten years out of the Rodeo Circuit and he's finally getting inducted into the Hall Of Fame!
I turned to Blayze, ready to plead my Uncle's case, but he was quick to roll his eyes at me.
"Of course we gotta go."
Grandpa clapped his hands together.
"That's the spirit!"
"When's this on?"
I asked, glancing between Blayze and Grandpa questioningly.
"The event's on the twenty second."
Blayze told me.
"Of...?"
I asked, raising my eyebrows.
Every single month in the calendar year has a twenty second in it!
"This month. December."
Grandpa declared, folding his arms across his chest.
This month?!
That's a few days before Christmas!
It's a few days from NOW!
"We'd have to hit the road on the twentieth to give us plenty of time..."
Blayze hedged.
"You'll get there in less time than that."
Grandpa pointed out.
"I can't fit everyone in my car."
Blayze pointed out.
No.
We've got eight seats, but our family has more than eight members!
"And he's certainly not driving like an idiot with Luka in the car!"
I added.
Grandpa smiled.
"I never drive like an idiot."
Blayze rolled his eyes.
Maybe not, but he plenty of times drives well over the speed limit!
"Blayze! You in here?"
Hearing my Uncle's voice, I looked towards the open doorway with wide eyes.
"Yeah!"
Blayze called back.
A shadow moved at the doorway before my Uncle stepped into the shed.
"Dad, Bails."
He only seemed mildly surprised to find us here as well.
"And Luka!"
I declared, gesturing to the pram.
Uncle Lukas smiled.
"Doesn't surprise me. He's never far from you two yet."
He moved over to peek into the pram where my Son lay sleeping peacefully.
"What's up?"
Blayze asked, folding his arms across his chest.
Uncle Lukas turned away from the pram to focus on Blayze.
"I was wondering how you'd feel about a couple days' road trip?"
He shot a sideways, slightly weary glance in my direction.
Uh oh!
He hasn't made plans for the same time as the banquet, right?
I looked quickly towards Grandpa.
"And where might this be to?"
Blayze asked, raising an eyebrow.
I waited with baited breath for Uncle Lukas' answer.
His green eyes sparkled as a smile pulled at the corner's of his lips.
"Warwick."
Warwick...
Hold on!
My heart lurched into a sprint.
"You mean the APR banquet?!"
I all but squealed, trying extremely hard to remain standing still.
Smiling, Grandpa shook his head.
"Yup."
Uncle Lukas nodded.
"Well..."
Blayze hedged.
I couldn't shut up any longer.
"We're all going!"
I declared, bouncing on my toes.
"All?"
Uncle Lukas asked, raising a questioning eyebrow.
"Yes."
Grandpa agreed with a nod.
Uncle Lukas looked between the three of us.
"Then who's gonna keep an eye on this joint and the stock?"
He questioned, his gaze lingering the longest on Grandpa.
Grandpa shrugged.
"We'll have to work that out."
"The hands managed when we went interstate for Blayze!"
I piped up.
Both Grandpa and Uncle Lukas had joined me then for a few days.
"Grace and Kylie were here then."
Blayze reminded me.
"I don't think they'll sit this one out."
With Uncle Lukas being inducted, he was probably right.
"I'll work out who'll see to things here."
Grandpa told us.
"We'll make a family road trip of it."
We're going to Warwick, Queensland, for a banquet that's being held three days before Christmas!
Wait...
"When would we leave?"
I asked, looking between the faces of the three males I trusted most in the whole entire universe.
Blayze swallowed.
All three exchanged a glance.
"Tomorrow."
They unanimously declared.
I just about choked on my own lungful of air.
