"Baby I'm so proud of you!"
Mum declared as she wrapped me into one of those hugs that only a Mother can provide.
"I haven't managed it yet."
I reminded her, hugging her back.
"Doesn't matter."
Mum shook her head.
"I'm so proud of you. Whatever happens will happen."
Well what other option even was there?
"And Blayze is going too?"
Mum checked as she stepped back.
I nodded.
"He's not exactly excited, but he said he'll do it."
Mum smiled.
"Well that's coz he loves ya."
I couldn't help but smile, a slight blush warming my cheeks.
"Who loves who?"
Mum stepped back, her green eyes sparkling in amusement.
"Wouldn't you like to know!"
Laughing lightly, I turned around to face Blayze.
"So what's the verdict?"
He'd been hoping Grandpa might let him do some work.
The problem was, tomorrow was only four weeks since the accident.
Only mere days ago did we learn that Doctor Legend still hadn't cleared him for work.
And with good reason.
He'd busted ribs and gotten a horn puncture wound.
None of that could possibly be healed yet.
Blayze grimaced.
"He said he'd rather see a Doctor's certificate."
"But I also said I stand bugger all chance at actually tellin' him what to do."
I snapped my gaze past Blayze to find that Grandpa also had entered the kitchen.
Blayze smiled just slightly.
"I also told him he'd better bloody take it easy coz I actually need him back on deck when the Doctor's do clear 'im."
Grandpa explained.
"Yeah but I'm goin' stir crazy sittin' around doin' nothin'!"
Blayze insisted.
"And the bill's are startin' to burn a hole in my pocket."
"I get that."
Grandpa agreed, gently clapping a hand onto his shoulder.
I couldn't help but smile.
But a thought occurred to me.
"You remember what we're supposed to be doing tonight, right?"
I checked.
As much as I was nervous about Dinner with my Father, who's never been anything like a Father to me, I also didn't want to cancel.
I have to do this for my baby.
Blayze rolled his eyes.
"I remember. And I'll be ready."
"Yeah I heard about this."
Grandpa declared, twisting around to lean backward against the nearby kitchen bench, lightly folding his arms across the faded blue fabric of his button down shirt.
Silence seemed to consume the kitchen.
The loudest of the noises was the huge sun shaped clock with it's second hand ticking away.
I averted my eyes, feeling nervous.
My Grandpa certainly isn't James Oakley's biggest fan.
"Bailey?"
I forced myself to look at Grandpa's face as he asked for my attention.
"Proud of you Princess."
Grandma sincerely told me, giving a small nod of approval, his green eyes showing his sincerity.
I couldn't help but smile.
It always felt good to have the support and approval of my family.
It made me feel like I could tackle whatever was thrown my way.
"Well I'd better get outta here if I'm actually gonna get anythin' done."
Blayze declared.
Grandpa nodded his agreement and pushed off from the bench, turning on his heel to head back out of the kitchen.
"Please be careful."
I urged Blayze, turning to face him.
It would be disastrous if he did more damage to his body now, when it was in the process of healing.
"I will."
He agreed with a nod.
"I just gotta get some money comin' back in. Two car's needing rego and Roo's vet bill due at the end of the month are just the beginning of the bill's list."
Shit.
I wasn't even aware of what Jackaroo's vet bill from Mawson District even came in at.
"I told you not to worry about my car's rego."
I all but whispered.
"I'll pay it."
"With what?"
He asked, raising a questioning eyebrow.
I really had to bite my tongue to refrain from snapping a sarcastic response that would just wind up irritating us both.
I didn't need to annoy him before we even got to dinner with my Father.
That experience was likely to be tedious enough.
"With money Blayze. I have a bank account."
I explained.
I might not have wracked up the same kind of working hours he had, in my measly few months working before the pregnancy put a half to it all, but I knew I at least had some money in my account.
"It's up to me to pay for these things that the car needs."
I reasoned.
He has his own car to keep on the road.
"Yeah and I got you knocked up, which means you're outta work, which means you're back at school, which means how the fuck are you meant to pay for this shit?"
I was quite literally divided down the line as to whether I felt grateful he at least felt the obligation to take care of us, or whether I felt pissed off that he apparently believed I didn't expect to pay my own way.
"I'm not fighting with you."
I denied and turned on my heel to make myself another cup of tea.
I didn't make it more than a step before Blayze snagged my wrist and pulled me around to face him again.
"I'm sorry."
He all but whispered, releasing my wrist.
I swallowed thickly.
"For?"
"Being an arsehole."
Gently he cupped my face between his hands, then leaned down to kiss me.
My traitorous heart tripped all over itself, beating twice as hard as normal as our lips softly and sensually caressed each other's.
"Apology accepted."
I whispered as Blayze rested his forehead against mine.
"Pay for it if ya really want."
Blayze stated as he straightened.
"But as I said, it's already on my list so you really don't have to worry."
"Alright, we'll talk about it later."
I suggested.
He nodded.
"Now I really need to get outside and get some work done."
"Just take it easy."
I pled.
"You'll be out of action longer if you hurt yourself before you're recovered."
"I know."
He agreed.
Smiling just slightly, I shook my head.
Typical Cowboy.
But, in our lifestyle you don't get 'sick pay' or anything like that.
You get paid for the work you do.
In the last almost four weeks, Blayze had only trimmed Aston's hooves.
Blayze planted a kiss on my lips before heading for the back archway.
