Why, War?

From the skirmishes in the primary school playground

To the horror befallen Aleppo

We humans seem to have a foul fascination

Of exerting our dominance, whatever the cost

Once or twice can pass

But wars are cast far more then that

For there have been not one, but two world wars

Death and destruction incarnate

Another is brewing, soon, soon

The Koreas lock horns like angry rhinos

Putin readies his weapons

Refugees run like headless chickens

From the mess of respective wars

The middle east is burned and cremated

With new conflicts brewing to the sides

And the few innocent countries struggle

Against terrorism's grip

Against war's rusty chains

Pulling them closer, pulling them in

No matter how war ends, the result is decimation

Something we have seen countless times before

So we wonder

Why, war?
