Devil's Democracy

A democracy gives power to those who desire it most
The people in the hills, the cities, the coast
Those who sit biting their nails
Watching their reverent ambitions fail
These people are you, the ones overseeing
On your high horses hiding in the lowliest pleading

Equality, truth, justice, they say
Democracy's safe little glade
Strength and happiness to all?
Yet why are there so many of these brawls?
Democracy pits differing groups against each other
In a devilish dog fight with no real winner

Democracy is a safe against uprising, clearly
But its greatest strength is its greatest weakness
They place the power in us, the fragmented
The insane, hate-fuelled, and demented
We make cloudy, rushed decisions
And call for revotes when we realize our mistakes

We look down on a dictatorship's grasp
Yet trusting the people to make decisions is risky
One person may fulfill all we ask
While our decisions makers sit around drinking whiskey
Is a democratic or republic country really so perfect
Do we trust ourselves, or those who deserve it?
