Firefly

Fireflies gravitate toward the brightest light

And will snuggle up to it in glee

They let themselves grow attached to it

And soon are invested emotionally

They fawn and think about the light constantly

Wonder what the light thinks of them

They buzz happily when it speaks

And laughs for it again and again

But if that light switches off

Where will you be, little firefly?

Broken, silent, alone in the dark once more

Uncomprehending you realize

The mistake you made

And you put on the guise

But why do you, little firefly?

Act so attached to light's ilk

When you are shining so bright yourself?
