Delightful Dictatorship

A dictator sends chills down many a spine
And causes children to recoil in fear
The word's connotation holds a dark weight
A harbour of pain and suffering over the years
We think ourselves happy in our democracy
But how would a dictatorship work, in reality?

Hitler, Stalin, worse even
The notorious tales we all believe in
True they may be, but that was but two dictatorships
When we seem to be forgetting belated whims
Much of the planet was once under iron fists
Yet flourishing life would still persist

Elections are imperfect and give power
To those who likely should not be allowed it
If all this power was placed in one individual,
A hardened, trained, talented leader
Would the nation not be far better off?
Would the decisive machine created bring success on?

Prone to bloody rebellion, this is true
But no system is perfect, and who are you?
To make decisions deciding the future
A fragmented wish against a firm, reliable idea?
So put aside your disgust of a dictatorship
And open your eyes to a future that could maybe be
