Crystal lake

Long ago there was a lake of crystal
Unmatched in it's beauty and devoid of rancidity
Yet somehow, only a speck of crystal remains of what once was
A turquoise, glimmering shard of what many forgot

In a rainforest, secluded and special
Far away from the ocean's embrace
The lake sat, where no-one could trespass,
But that did not stop the tide of heartbreak

Consumed by ignorance
Basking in fool's pride
A man dropped the ball
And that started the tide

While secluded and invisible
The lake was hit
All life sheltering inside
Slowly perished

The people did not understand the consequences
That this laziness hid
Behind it, the lake decayed
Packets, containers and lids

Mistakes destroyed the lake
But why should we bother fixing it now?
For the world is surely destroyed
Nothing can bring the lake back, anyhow

Yet in that small speck
Live a community of life
We can survive without our crystals
But the community is in strife

Our own society
Woefully lacking Clairvoyance
Has a chance to see the future now
And control its arrogance

The future falls to the young harbourers of ignorance
Will you shelter your crystal, protect it?
Or will you accept what's done and finished
A beautiful planet, a beautiful lake, with little undiminished
