You smiled at Erwin and your finger rolled affectionately over the knuckles on his left hand and the golden ring on his ring finger. Your eyes shone brightly and you were able to tell Erwin was oozing happiness right now. On the other side of the table Levi had a hand around Hanji's shoulders while Mike was frowning with a scrunched up nose and Nanaba was eyeing him up with slight concern.
You were all waiting for your orders and once they got served you all dug in with the exception of Mike, who excused himself and stood up, going a little to the side.
"I'm going to check if everything's okay with him." Nanaba informed with a small smile while getting up and quickly following after her husband.
"Things don't look good." You stated with furrowed eyebrows, leaving your fork down and staring at the place Mike and Nanaba were seemingly having a small argue.
"Every couple has an argue here and there." Hanji shrugged and you glanced at her before your eyes went back to Mike's disgusted face, staring right at your table while Nanaba was trying to talk to him calmly. You felt like his gaze was burning you up like he knew something more than the others.
You gulped and turned back to your food but Erwin was quick to squeeze your hand lightly and ask softly: "(Y/N), are you feeling alright, darling? You seem pale."
"No, no. I'm perfectly fine, Erwin, thank you for worrying but everything's okay." You flashed him a small smile, the feeling in your gut telling you not to eat right now if you didn't want to be running to the toilet less than a minute later, the face Mike did in your way making a knot tie itself up in your throat.
You glanced across the table at Hanji who was eagerly eating her food and then your gaze slowly went to the man by her side, short but well-build and very very handsome.
His eyes met yours briefly and you could tell he was ever so slightly disturbed as well. You wondered if he had noticed the way Mike had stared at your table, the disgust prominent on his features as his lips moved and told something to Nanaba was with a stone-cold tone.
When the couple returned to the table, Mike's gaze was set straight into you and sometimes just briefly glanced over to Levi or Erwin. For the main part of things the night was nice - you conversed a lot, you laughed, you ate a little of what you had ordered and mainly you were with friends - but the unsettling feeling of Mike's gaze on you never let you abandon that tense state of mind you had.
Later than night, you got together with some of your friends as surprising as that would've sounded to any man really, because not all women cheat on their husbands when they say they're going out with friends.
At the bar you, Hanji, Nanaba and Petra got together you laughed times more than when you did on the dinner a few hours ago. Petra told you about her and Oluo, how their relaionship was going and how they were planning on having a child. Everyone congratulated her mainly because all of them weren't pretty set on having kids themselves, you being included in that number.
"I apologize for not being able to come to the dinner. Oluo was staying late work hours and I had to bring him something to eat." Petra smiled sheepishly and scratched the back of her neck. "But how was the dinner? Did it go well?"
"Yes, everything was great." Nanaba smiled while you took a sip from the vodka in your glass.
"Actually what happened with Mike, Nanaba? You seemed like having an argue." You asked and the blonde just furrowed her eyebrows, as if debating on whether to share or not. In the end you were all a circle of best friends so she took a breath and started talking.
"When I went to his side, at first he just stated that we shouldn't probably stay for too long. He said he couldn't stand the smell and then looked back at the table with disgust. I thought it was because of the food or something but when I asked him what smell, the answer kind of shocked me because as we all know Mike can have a sharp sense of smell but he usually doesn't smell... emotional states or things like that." Nanaba looked down at the glass in front of her darkly.
