"We didn't realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun."

April 24th, 1992
Minnetonka, Minnesota.
Alyssa removed her shoes and stripped out of her top and pants. She was wearing plain black undergarments.
"Levi! Come!" She shouted to her best friend.
Levi Cahill.
He's almost 5 feet, 90 pounds with a pale complexion and slightly crooked teeth. Swimming is one of his many hobbies at just 12 years of age.
He tossed his shirt by the wet rocks on the side of the lake. The clear water excited him.
His gray eyes lit up and he brushed his brown hair with his fingers. "This is the best gift, Alyssa! Thanks!"
"You're welcome, but hurry before anyone notices we're missing." Alyssa said and looked over her shoulder.
John and Bella, Alyssa's parents, never allowed her to go for a swim alone into the lake. Neither did Levi's.
The best friends always bickered to each other about how unfair it was.
But today, on Levi's 12th birthday, Alyssa had a surprise for him. While playing with the other kids of the tribe, she 'accidentally' wandered off too far.
"Alright, here's the rules." Levi said with a mischievous smile as he took his position on the cemented pavement which stood a few feet above the water level.
Alyssa chuckled as both of them said in unison, "No rules!"
As their laughter died down and they stood in diving positions, Levi started the countdown.
"On three. One.. Two.."
"Three!" They screamed together and jumped into the lake.
With all the strength their little bodies could muster, they kicked and pushed their way through the hard force of the water.
The lake was pretty deep and big and the water was cold but the kids were determined to fight their way through the merciless water force.
Swimming as fast as they could, they reached the end of the lake and then turned back around to finish the race.
Alyssa noticed Levi in the lead and she pushed harder. But the almost 10 year old's body couldn't defeat Levi.
When she reached at the finish line, Levi was already out of the water. Smirking in victory, he held his hand out to help Alyssa out of the water.
She scowled and splashed water right in his face which startled him and he fell back on the ground.
"You cheated!" She accused. "I always win with Augustus, I'm very good at this."
Levi shook his head vigorously to dry his hair. "Either Augustus is really bad or he lets you win, which he shouldn't because how will you learn if you don't even know that there's room to improve."
"Augustus doesn't let me win. We race fair and square."
"You don't, look how easily I won. You need to practice more, Lisa." He smirked.
"It's Alyssa! Uh-Lis-ah!"
"No. I like Lisa. Lee-sa!" He mocked her and Alyssa rolled her eyes.
Levi laughed. "Just remember, I won't ever let you win. You have to earn it."
"Alyssa Jane Lauder!"
