"Damaged people are dangerous because they know they can survive."

"Levi!" Alyssa's voice came from inside the barn. "Get your a** in here! Right now!"
He had been sitting out on a pile of haystack, staring up at the evening sky.
"I know you can hear me, get in!" She screamed and the locked barn door barged open. Levi shook with the sudden blow and looked back, terrified that she had been set free.
But there was no one at the door.
He quickly ran in to find her still on the chair and a dark expression on her face.
"When I tell you to come, you come." She stated lowly.
"I don't take orders from you. What's so important that you had to break the doors.. with your mind?" He added the last part while trying to ignore the chill he felt.
He still couldn't stand the sight of her eyes glistening gold.
"Angels are coming."
His face lit up with relief. "Oh, thanks for telling me. I can finally sit back."
"Yeah, not so much. You sorta need to do the opposite. You have protect me."
"What?"
"They're coming to kill me, you f*cking idiot. Now, unless you untie me so I can help my own damn self.."
"That's not happening." Levi frowned.
"Figured. So get your blades or guns or whatever will hold an Angel off."
"I'm not killing an Angel! And neither are they, Crystal told me they agreed to-"
"Crystal is the one coming. I hurt her, she's angry at me."
"Nice try, but you can't make me fight Crystal. You have a way of twisting things."
"Fine, when she's here with her spear.. I'll love watching you go crazy. Don't say I didn't warn you."
Levi stared at Alyssa with indecisiveness and doubts.
....
"Where's Maureen's mother?" Rachel asked.
They were sitting by the steps in the porch of his house. Robb was off somewhere in the distance, looking through all the herbs in his farm.
"Lizzie left home two years ago. I live alone with Maureen."
Rachel's eyes softened. "I'm sorry, I hope I'm not intruding."
The man laughed. "No, no. It actually feels nice, I don't have anyone to talk about this stuff."
She smiled.
"And you don't seem to talk crazy like that boy. No offense." He chuckled.
"None taken. So how do you manage to raise a seven year old alone while being a farmer? Maybe you should consider marrying a nice girl?"
"No.. I handle just fine. Maureen wouldn't like a stranger in the house, and to be honest.. neither would I." He laughed.
"Mr Peterson!" Robb called out as he approached them. "Earlier when I said some things about spirits, you denied them, didn't you?"
Rachel glared at Robb.
"Yeah because that's insane!" The man exclaimed. "Disappearing into air? Bodies die, son. Ain't no spirits here."
Robb nodded. "Yet you seem to have a bag full of spirit killing glass behind that tree."
Rachel's eyes snapped towards the man in shock. How does he know anything about that? He's just a projection of the spell, she thought.
