"A true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him."
-G.K. Chesterton***
Two girls in their early teens were sitting by a stream of water. The brunette one gently ran her finger through the cold water.
"I wish I wouldn't have said that to my brother." She spoke with a sad smile. "Had I known I had so little time left, I wouldn't have said that."
"It's okay, Amber." The blonde one replied. "You can always ask one of the Walkers to convey a message to your family."
Amber bit her lip. "My family is grieving. I don't think they'll like a stranger talking about me so soon."
"I've talked to my family."
"You have?" Amber frowned.
"Yes." The blonde looked up at the deep, clear, blue sky. "I died on September 24th, 1894. In that era, my family was residing in the South African regions. My father's friend knew a Walker, Elizabeth. Of course, she told everyone was a Shaman and not a Walker."
Amber chuckled. "How out of the loop you feel in retrospect?"
"A lot.. anyways, Elizabeth came to me and I was able to pass on my messages, even my mother's Guardian Angel communicated with them. Elizabeth had to act as a Shaman and she helped out a lot. My family was better soon afterwards and then years later.. I met them here. We're home again. A family again."
Amber sighed. "As much as I wanna be with them, I hope they don't die just yet."
"It's okay. True love knows no space dimensions. Distance and time are just insignificant concepts. You'll be reunited with them. No matter whether you died in 1894 or 2004, this fact will remain the same."
The wind picked up speed, but none of them paid attention to it.
"I would've asked a Walker for help but no one comes by these days." Amber sighed. "It's all chaotic now."
"I agree. Walkers were the only chains and links of communication. Even the Angels are gone."
The birds were chirping and the sound was soothing and melodic.
"You're the first spirit I've seen in days. What about you?" Amber asked.
The girl shrugged. "Can't even seem to remember."
The trees rustled as the wind started blowing wildly.
"Whoa.." Amber frowned and looked behind her. She gasped at what she saw.
"Melarin, run!" She shouted.
Melarin turned around and tried to get up but the force of the wind knocked her down.
The blue sky turned gray. Dark layers and layers of clouds covered the sun.
Amber whimpered as a woman came closer to them.
"Y-Your ey-eyes.."
"Yes. Doesn't the gold in them make me look good? It's so enchanting." The woman smiled.
"Who are you?" Melarin yelled over the wind noise.
"Your recruiter." Was all the woman said before forcefully grabbing Amber's arm and digging her nails on her.
Amber screamed in pain but the woman didn't stop until she was on her knees and shaking violently.
"What are you doing to her?! Stop it!" Melarin tried to run towards her friend, who was crying on the ground but the woman stopped her.
