They walked out of the school building towards their car. Alyssa opened the backseat door and grabbed her bag.
"Remains of a witch, meet soil from Earth." She said dropped the packet in.
"Amazing. What's next for us?" Levi asked as he sat down in the driver's seat.
"Um, we could try spiritual essence? Do you have any idea how that could done?" She shut the door and leaned back.
"Spiritual essence." He mumbled and thought hard.
"When a spirit dies, it disintegrates. Like, vaporises, or vanishes. How can we get the essence and what will we trap it in before it neutralises?"
"We can't," Levi shrugged. "It's like anti-matter or something."
"Exactly, it'll burn out too quickly."
"Maybe we should try it out the last. Like seconds before casting the spell." Levi suggested.
"What if we fail to get one? The whole spell will go to vain and we'll have to start again if we're not dead already by then."
Levi bit his lip and wordlessly started the car. Their first priority was safety, they had discussed it. After the whole Max and no-other-person-in-sight situation, they knew it was the best to get out of here as fast as possible. They also knew Angels were unable to reach out as gold eyed Odette was near them but no Angel was able to warn them.
"Do you think we should've kept Max with us?" Alyssa asked after a while.
"Why do you ask?"
"Maybe he knows something about the essence. You know things I didn't. Every tribe has some new knowledge. Maybe his does too."
"Look, it's a sensitive topic, but still I'm gonna say it. You and I? We were in the same tribe once, long ago but we were. Lassiters and Lauders are at each other's throat since like.. f*cking long."
Alyssa didn't say anything so he continued.
"And after the whole Victoria drama, I don't know how they treated her after her marriage, but they won't treat you good that's for sure. You're still an outsider, a Lauder. Victoria was a Lassiter. Plus, maybe Max isn't as open minded as you'd like. Saw how he ran away the moment he knew who we were?"
"But something bugs me." She said. "He must've known we're not from his tribe when he didn't recognize us at first. Why'd he run only after he found we're the leaders?"
"No idea." Levi replied. "Anyways, why even discuss him. What's our next target?"
She sighed. "If not spiritual essence, then let's try purified oil."
"That should be the easiest one left."
"Think so."
"How do we get it?" He asked.
"There are many rituals in the archives but they're very complicated. I don't think we need that much purity, a simple blessing from a priest should be fine."
"Do we need any special kind of oil?"
"We'll have to check."
"From?"
She pointed to the board they passed.
City library, one mile away.
Levi stepped on the pedal and their car drove off as the sun came down.
