The bright and hopeful girl gazed at him curiously. Well, he'd seen her, and she spoke to him in a language he didn't understand. How was she going to say anything else...? First of all, she was in her Phase Zero form, so she leveled down to her black, wavy hair.
That seemed to make the boy even more confused. He hadn't said a word either. They stared in silence, awkwardly. Niya took a deep breath and held out her hand. That was what humans did, right?
Despite being stunned by her actions, the boy accepted her hand and shook it. He was cold...
"Konnichiwa! Watashi wa Niya desu!" using her other hand, Niya pointed to herself, smiling.
The boy looked weary. "I'm sorry, but... I don't understand..." He hesitantly removed his hand from hers.
Just as Niya suspected, he didn't understand, and neither did she. She decided to make it simpler. Again, she pointed to herself. "Niya."
"Niya?" the boy repeated. She nodded. He raised his brows. "Oh. Are you trying to say your name is Niya?"
She nodded, excitedly, "Niya!"
The boy smiled, "That's a nice name." Niya had no idea what he said, but since he smiled, she assumed it was something nice. Now the boy pointed to himself. "My name is Trunks. Trunks."
What had he said before? Your... name is...? She pointed to Trunks and tried out her knowledge. "Yoour... naaymm... iis... Trunks?"
Trunks grinned at her efforts. "Yeah. Good job." To emphasize his point, he did a thumbs up.
Niya mimicked him, "Gouud jyoub?"
It sounded the similar, but it was clear she was using different pronunciations. Her efforts were cute though. Trunks nodded, "Good job, Niya."
She smiled, "Arigato gozaimasu, Trunks!"
Another unfamiliar term. She frowned as his face contorted in thought. How would she explain it...? Hm... She heard her brother say it a dozen times when they went to the store! What was it, what was it? It had some "Yoo" in it. She gave it a try, "Tuanks yoo..." She knew it was terrible.
Trunks managed to pick it up. "Oh. You were saying 'Thank you'? Is that what 'Ahreegatoh go...," he trailed off, blushing. He forgot the line.
"Daijyobu desu," Niya giggled. "Thhankuh yoo!"
Trunks scratched his head sheepishly. Thankfully, the girl had patience... He looked around, wondering where he was. What time was it? Oh, his mother was probably worried sick about him!
Niya read it on his face. She heard the word many times. "Home?" she asked.
The blue eyed boy turned to her. "Yes. My home. I need to...," he pointed to himself and up the stream where he came from, "go Home."
The cheerful girl wasn't so cheerful at the moment, but nodded in understanding, "Trunks... go Home."
He gave a curt nod before standing; Niya followed suit. "Thank you... for healing me, Niya," he gazed into her round, marvelous eyes. They were curious and lost, but beautiful all the same. "I'll come back again," he smiled. He held out his hand, "Friends?"
Friends? Niya knew this word! It was in a song she loved and asked her Auntie LaLa to translate it for her. She took it, "Friends!" His hand was still cold... "Demo...! Chotto matte!" she grabbed Trunks by the shoulders and forced him down on his rear. She held out her hand like 'Stop' and pointed to where he was sitting. "Modori masu!" Niya broke out running through the trees.
