Chapter 24

The first match was a one on one, Erza against Bacchus. It lasted a good while, but in the end Erza took him down, barely able to stay standing herself.

"Good job, Erza!" I screamed, clapping. She gave the best smile she could muster and collapsed next to her opponent. "That was a good fight."

"They were destined to duke it out one day, I just thought it would have happened earlier," Gajeel leaned on the railing from our platform.

"Our next one on one battle will be between Toby of Lamia Scale and Beth of Mermaid Heel," the announcer called out.

"I'm going to go get a drink or something," I left the guys and went to go walk around.

I found my way to a vendor and bought a water bottle, chugging a good bit of it down.

"Hey, Lucy," two voices came from below me.

"Lector, Frosch," I smiled, picking both of them up. "How have you two been? It's been a week since we last talked."

"We just wanted to say that Sabertooth will beat you guys, even if we haven't won in the past, this is our year," Lector stated.

"Oh, we will have to see about that."

"Wait, I've never seen your power other than when you summoned that snake," Frosch jumped in.

"That was Ophiuchus the snake charmer, I'm now more powerful than I've ever been before, and I haven't even tested out my own strength now that I have her."

"Well, you still are no match for Sting."

"Ok," I smiled and carried the two back to their platform, making my way back to my own. "What did I miss?"

"Beth took Toby down easily, so the third match has started, Hibiki from blue Pegasus and Rufus Lore from Sabertooth are facing off," Laxus filled me in.

"What about us? We have no one?"

"That's what I don't understand."

The fight ended in a tie between the two, both still standing when the time ran out. "Good job, guys!" I yelled out, trying to seem like a good sport.

"This year, it has been decided that the team that doesn't compete in a one on one battle will have a harder time in the surprise event," the next match was about to begin. "In this case, someone from Fairy Tail A will have the set back."

I thought this over, if I was chosen, my odds still would be good.

"The seven competing will be Gajeel," we all snapped our heads at him.

"I got this guys, you can count on me," he gave one of his creepy grins.

"Don't lose this for us on the first day," Natsu said.

"You got it, salamander."

I watched as the competitors went into the arena. The event was this seeking game. Items have been scattered through out this city, one that was formed in the stadium. Their lists were different and they had different locations, so no one had the same thing. Gajeel's obstacle was he would be shocked at random, making him weaker and see if he could handle it and find the items in time. He seems strong, he should be fine.

I hope. The game began and the contestants were off. "Go, Gajeel!" I threw my hands up and waved them ecstatically. I heard laughing and looked towards Sabertooth to see Sting making a heart with his hands. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at him.

"And Gajeel receives his first shock!" My focus went back to the event and I saw Gajeel freeze, gripping his head.

"Don't give in, Gajeel!" A name popped into my mind. I wasn't sure who it was, but I remember him saying it. "Do it for shrimp!" I think that did it because he shook a little and continued on.

"Uh, Lucy you do know that's his nickname for Levy right?" Natsu asked.

"What?!" I blushed, turning to him.

"Heh, imaging how Levy is reacting to this," Gildarts joked.

"I'm a bad person," I slapped my forehead and went back to the game.

"Looks like all the competitors have found at least one object, they each have four more to go. The clock is at twenty two minutes and fifty six seconds, who will come out on top?"

The time seemed to pass to quickly, Gajeel was still going strong, even though the shocks got worse and more frequent. He tied in first place with Mermaid Heel.

"That's the end of day one, folks. In first place we have Mermaid heel with eleven points, Fairy Tail A in second with nine points, Sabertooth in third with seven points, Fairy Tail B in in fourth with six points, Lamia Scale in fifth with five points, Blue Pegasus in sixth with three points, and Quatro Cerberus in seventh with zero points. Tomorrow should be just as exciting as today, so we will see you all then."
