Mystic Falls, 1864.

Closing the door behind us, Elizabeth and I rested our backs up against the door as I heard the sound of metal twisting and clinging to each other.

'No! No! Don't take her!' Damon yelled.

'Do you know what they'll do to you if you're branded a sympathizer?' My father yelled.

'You'll be killed along with them!'

'Then let me be killed!'

'Lauren, you have to go.' Elizabeth whispered, as she grabbed my arm and took me into the bathroom where it connected to another bedroom near the kitchen stairs.

'I can't leave her, Elizabeth. Not when she's gonna die!'

'Keep your voice down. You heard your father, sympathizers get killed, and you, my dear, are not a sympathizer, but a vampire. They will burn you alive.'

Staring at her green eyes, there were dashes of red swirling around.

'Come on.'

Running out the back door, I held onto Elizabeth's hand as we entered the horse stables behind the house.

'Where are we going?' I asked.

'You are going to get out of Mystic Falls and somewhere safe. I'll tell your brother's where you went.'

'What, no! I'm not leaving-'

'You have no say in this, Lauren! It's either life or death, and you've already gone through one stage. So I'm choosing for you, Live.'

Wrapping a black cloak around me, she put the hood over my head before helping me up onto the horse.

'How will you find me?' I asked.

'With this...'

Taking off her necklace, she places it in my hand and closes it, holding it between hers.

'In time, I'll find you. I hope by that time, you're not much older than you are now.'

'Elizabeth, I can't.'

'You must, Lauren. For Katherine, she would want you to live so that one day you'll come back and kill each and every one of these bastard humans.'

Stepping away from my horse, I hit its left leg forcing it to run out the farm and into a dark dirt road. Holding on as tight as I could, I could hear Katherine's screams in the distance, while tears blinded my sight.

Waking up to the sound of shoes echoing on the hardwood floor, I opened my eyes slightly to find myself staring at Tyler. He sat on a chair with his arms crossed over his chest, I could tell he was worried because he wouldn't stop tapping his foot.

"You're up..." He whispered.

"Where did you take me?" I asked him, looking around the room with my eyes slightly closed as I took the covers off my legs.

"You're in my room. But can I ask?" He questioned.

Sitting up on his bed, I ran my fingers through my hair.

"Why were you running? Was someone chasing you?"

"I was running away from Damon...it's a long story," I said as I reached down and started to put on my boots.

"Here, I looked through it, hope you don't mind," Tyler whispered.

"Thanks..."

Heading out of his room, we walked quietly to the front door when I heard his car keys dangle in his hands.
