"Here...The Brotherhood of the Five is a group of vampire hunters, supernaturally gifted by a dying witch, who wanted to grant Qetsiyah's last wish." I sighed, skimming my finger down the lines as I walked over to my father, who was surrounded by books.
"What did you just say?"
"Wish?"
"No, the name. Whose name?" He blurted out, pulling his glasses back.
"Qetsiyah...she was a descendant of the dead witch. Why?"
Jumping to his feet, he stepped over the opened books, pushing every chair in the room to the door.
"Dad? What is it?" I asked.
"Stand back!"
Suddenly, the doors behind me burst open followed by a cold gush of wind. The books and lose pieces of paper all burst in the air like a bomb, twirling and flipping along the current of the wind.
"Dad?!"
"Scarlett, get back!" He yelled, grabbing my arm as he threw the book.
"Domum hanc negans ex vires viribus munita. Sic fiat semper!" He yelled again.
With my arm still clenched in his hand, I felt him grab me quickly, setting me in front of him like a shield.
"Put your hands out!"
With my palms stretched out, I stared at the open double doors, feeling my eyes dry quickly and my cheeks burn from the wind.
"Domum hanc negans ex vires viribus munita!"
And then, the wind died suddenly. And the rattling from the papers had gone mute, almost as if the entire room was soundproof leaving behind a scattered mess.
Shocked and out of breath, my chest rose and fell desperately as the two of us stood beside each other.
"What the hell was that?" I sighed.
"...Qetsiyah."
"What the hell happened?" Sebastian yelled, peaking his head through the door.
"Sebastian, where's your mother?"
"Upstairs asleep-"
"Scarlett, sweetheart, are you alright?" My mother yelled, running with her arms extended out.
"I'm fine, mom..."
"My love, what happened?"
Standing by my dad, they both seemed distracted as they looked at each other without a word.
"Lauren, come...let's go to the kitchen." Sebastian sighed, grabbing me by the shoulders.
"But-"
"It's best if you let them figure out what happened. Come on."
Passing through the hallway leading to the main stairs, Sebastian walked in front of me as I kept overhearing my parents in the other room. The rustling of the papers and the scraping on the wooden floor echoed in my ear just when Sebastian's hand grabs me.
"Careful." He blurted out.
"Sorry...but do you really think-"
"Lauren...trust me, they know what they're doing." He added, stepping down a step.
"Come on, I know where dad keeps his liquor hidden away."
~
Sitting at the edge of the fishing ramp that extended almost to the middle of the lake at the back of our house, Sebastian laid back staring up at the sky while I chugged down the last few gulps of Tequila.
