Jumping off a large flat stone rock overlooking the forest Kai had led us too, Damon, who had been nagging this entire trip about his plans with Elena after the eclipse, tossed stones from over my head.

"Could you stop that, you'll end up hitting someone." I blurted out.

"You mean like Kai..."

Skipping down the small hill, I turned back to look at Damon once I stopped my tracks seeing him flipping another stone is his hand.

"How hard can you throw one of those?" I asked, catching Damon's smirk.

"Easy...he's our only way out of here, and we wouldn't want to anger a sociopath."

"Please...we practically invented the meaning. One switch out of us and he's supper."

"Ooh, I've never heard talk like that before..."

"Sorry-,"

"No, I like it...it suits you." Damon chuckled.

Taking the lead down the steep hill, I skipped over some large tree trunks and other stones embedded in the ground as Damon followed in behind me, almost tripping on some gravel. With the sun just peeking over the trees, most of the fog caught from last night still lingered across our feet as he continued on the trail.

"Careful, we wouldn't want you to lose your touch now, Damon."

"I'm older than you, first of all...and my agility is just fine."

"...I didn't mean your agility, but since we're talking about age, you might want to lay out of the sun for a while. Those dark spots are starting to creep up on you."

Nugging my shoulder, I weaved around the dead pieces of bark and branches on the ground as we followed the sound and smell of Kai's cheap cologne through the trees as the wind started to pick back up.

"So, what are your plans for when you get home?" Damon asked.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, who's the first person you're gonna go see."

"...my bed," I said sarcastically.

"That's not as living thing."

"It is to me...it gives me warm hugs when I'm depressed or cold."

"Well...I'm gonna go see my girl-"

"Yeah, you've said that for the last thousandth time." I groaned.

"Someone's salty...are you sad that Klaus won't be there to welcome you back."

Ignoring Damon, I strode faster through the forest when I felt his hand reach out for me.

"Hey, I'm sorry...that was insensitive..."

"Insensitive would be bringing his unborn child into the mix, I think the term you're looking for is annoying."

Turning back around to follow the trail, Kai came out of nowhere with the ascendant in his hand and staring up at the sky.

"...he just looks crazier by the second, doesn't he?"

Rolling my eyes away from Damon, I headed further towards Kai.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Here...start digging."

Tossing the shovel onto the ground, I gazed over at Damon who had that old sour look on his face before I kicked the shovel over to him.

"You heard him...start digging."
