Founder's Ball, 1864.

Standing between the arch-door, I took a sip of my drink as I smiled at the guest around me. Classical music played around the rooms as they danced together in the other room. Katherine and Stefan, like always, flirted with each other as Damon watched.

'She's all alone.' I heard George Lockwood whisper.

'Does this mean I can finally have you all to myself?' He whispered, walking past me with a smirk on his face.

'Your father's outdone himself.' I said walking further into the room.

'Knowing father, he'll want to throw a Founder's party every year.'

Standing near one of my old painting I had finished for his family, George turned to look at me and I continued to drink my champagne.

'Hmm. I must admit I am rather surprised that you'd come looking for me.'

'Because you're the judge in the Salvatore Brother's Tug-of-war?' He asked.

'No, because I'm a vampire who could kill you in your sleep.' I chuckled sarcastically, hearing his heart skip beats.

'I beg your pardon?'

'Relax, George. I know you know my secret.' I whispered.

'This conversation is over.' He hissed walking away from me.

But with a swift and tight move, I gripped my hand around his forearm, pulling him back towards me.

'And I know you're secret, too. And I know that you're extra strong. Only not as strong.'

Letting go of his arm looks around for people hearing in on our conversation before stepping closer to me.

'How do you know who I am?'

'You think that I would let my friends settle into a town without knowing our enemies?' I whispered.

'What do you want?'

Stefan's POV

"What did he want with Lauren?" I asked Katherine.

Sitting in front of her down in the basement all shackled up and injected with vervain. I stared at her until she asked me some questions.

"Do you ever pretend to be human with Elena?"

"I don't have to pretend. That's the whole point. I get to just be myself." I whispered.

"Does she know that you love me?"

Leaning closer to Katherine, as she tilted her head to the side.

"I don't."

"That's where you're wrong, Stefan. Don't you remember bringing me home that night?" She whispered.

"You're family had taken me in, after Lauren had convinced them that having me around was a good idea. But that night..."

"And I know you remember. You fell in love with me, Stefan. But go ahead, torture me, keep me captive, drain me of my blood until my body turns to dust. It'll never change that truth. I never compelled your love." She whispered.

"It was real. And so was mine."

"Hey, Stefan!" I heard Lauren yell from the top of the basement stairs.

"Um, what. Lauren?"

"After you're finished down there do you think you can help me find my necklace? I think I lost it out in the woods yesterday."
