Waking up inside a dark room, I looked around a noticed that my windows were still closed from the dark curtains in the room. Whispering was hearing throughout the house, especially one voice that I hadn't recognized.

Throwing my covers over my legs, I headed out the bedroom, searching for Damon or Elena, but by the time I got downstairs everyone was gone, except for Rebekah.

"Getting a head start, huh?" I said as I leaned on the door frame as Rebekah looked at herself in the mirror wearing the red dress she picked out yesterday.

"Embarrassing truth. This is my first high school dance."

"Ever?"

"I never really had time for high school before. Nik and I were always moving around. Running...anyway, I didn't want to leave anything to chance." She whispered.

Slowly stepping into the room, I looked at her as she stood frozen.

"Have you heard anything from him?" She asked me.

"No. But I'm sure that when he does return, he'll do it with flair."

"He'll do it for you." She added, smiling softly.

"I think he does that for himself." I chuckled.

"And Damon and my father are all set with their plan?"

"From what I tried to ignore this morning...yes," I whispered.

"Don't tell me. I don't want to know."

"I don't either. I have this, um...feeling. It's kind of like mush, all of my emotions are wrapped around, trying to pull apart."

"That's called having feelings, have you ever been in love...rather than with Klaus?" Rebekah whispered.

"Yeah, but it wasn't like this. I honestly just want to go to the dance and leave it up to them." I added.

"This is going to be hard, isn't it? I'm plotting against my brother."

"Yes. I think it's going to be hard for the both of us. We hate and love Klaus equally, of course, we each have our own reasons."

"I just never thought I'd be the one to help drive a stake through his heart." He whispered.

"Yeah, well, I broke his heart...so, this is probably worse than mine."

"Nothing is worse than heartbreak." She blurted out.

Walking over to her, I stood just a few feet away as she finished up her makeup.

"How do I look?"

"You look amazing, but you're missing one thing," I said, holding up her mother's necklace in my hand.

"My mother's necklace..."

"You should wear it tonight...may I?" I asked as she picked up her hair.

"Thank you."

Looking past Rebekak in the mirror, Elena comes up from the stairs.

"Hey."

"Why aren't you dressed?" She asked me.

"I'm not really feeling homecoming this year. With everything that's going on." I added.

"You can sit home and watch movies all day long, of course, with Bourbon," Rebekah whispered, nudging my shoulder softly.

"You can't forget about that."

"You look amazing, Rebekah," Elena whispered as she stood behind us.

Then out of nowhere, there was a sudden burning pain coming from the middle of my chest. I could feel myself fall back to the floor in slow motion as my throat and lungs tightened. I laid on the floor in the half-light, utterly still, eyes open as I stared up at the ceiling.
