AC's POV
*Flashback*
I was two years old while Bea was four that time. Our brothers, they are already in grade school.
It was one afternoon after school, when Kuya Loel (Bea's brother) and Bea went to our house to play.
"Bea! Come! We'll play basketball!" Kuya Enzo, my brother, called her.
"How about your sister?" Bea asked as she looks at me holding a doll.
"She don't know how to play basketball. She might just get wounded." Kuya answered.
"Sabagay, she's too girly kasi." Bea said and walks to their direction pero nakatingin pa rin sakin.
"Hey! We'll play doll, light?" I shouted even though I can't pronounce words properly.
"I hate dolls. That's too boring. Basketball is pretty amazing." Bea shouted back as they run going to the park.
For our two weeks stay here, ganun lagi ang scenario. Bea will rather play basketball or cars with them while me? I'll play alone.
But, who would have thought that our next visit will change our setup.
I'm watching them play basketball at the park. They look so happy that I wanna join them, but I chose to sit down and watch them from a far since I don't know how to play that thing.
"Oh hey, little Avery! Are you bored with your dolls already?" Bea asked as she went to her yaya and asked for a drink.
"I hate you!" I shouted, but she just chuckles.
"Quit being boring. Try having fun, barbie girl." She said as she leaves the place.
We hate each other for being total opposite. I'm so girly while she's a boyish type. She likes sports while I like games that typical young girls will play.
One day, my parents and her parents planned a getaway in Tagaytay for the weekend.
I'm not in the mood because my mom scolded me this morning. I spilled coffee at some of her documents because I'm showing her my painting.
"Why does you always frown?" Bea asked me, but I just roll my eyes at her.
"Spoiled brat!"
"I'm not!" I defended myself and change my seat away from her.
Our parents share stories together. If I find it funny, I will laugh with them also. Pero kapag business talks na, nabobored na ako. They say, I think more mature than my age. Maybe it's because bata palang I was taught to be rational and logical already.
"You're cute when you smile pala." Bea whispers out of nowhere and again I just rolled my eyes at her.
She went back on her chair with a playful smile on her face. My mood ruined big time because of her.
After we ate, our brothers hurriedly run at the playing vicinity of the resto.
"Why don't you join them, girls?" Tita Det asked kasi naiwan kami ni Beatriz sa table.
"I'll stay here with AC, mom." Nagulat ako sa sinabi ni Bea.
"Don't go anywhere far if ever, okay?" Pagpapaalala ni daddy. We both nodded.
I walked to the sofa near the glass wall where I can see the taal volcano from here. I like views like this one, feeling ko ang taas-taas ko.
I'm busy savoring the view when Bea popped up. "Why does you're always grumpy?"
"Because life is annoying." I rolled my eyes at her again. Namumuro na ata ako.
"Because you always look at the negative side. Try looking at the another angle. You'll find it more interesting."
"You sounds like an adult." Yes, I'm that mean before. She chuckles again.
She's really a jolly kid. Yung walang problema sa buhay katulad ng ibang bata.
"I just watched it on tv. They say you're the mature one though."
"Who cares?"
"You know what? If you're mad in this world. Don't displace it to other people. You'll live alone with that kind of attitude, barbie girl." She talked like an experienced person already.
"Can you stop calling me barbie girl?!" I irritatedly asked.
"Fine! Fine!" She said and raised her arms in the air as if she's surrendering.
"Why don't you try sports? You know what? If I'm angry, I just play basketball then after awhile I feel like I don't have any energy na to be mad." Beatriz suggested.
"Can't you see? People around us see me as weakling. How can I try basketball with that?" I look at her with my 'obvious ba look'.
"So, you'll just let other people define you by the way they see you? C'mon you're more than that, Avery." Bea told me that makes me quiet.
And you know what? It hit me, it hit me big time. I'm too young that time to process those kind of things, but I managed to do it.
She taught me how to play badminton the day after that. After her school, she will always go to our house right away. And our friendship started there. Every time she'll learn new sports, she'll teach me every time uuwi kami.
We always update each other also. I always call her using our telephone. We also send emails to each other. We are so happy when we discover friendster especially when Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat was created. We became each other's diary.
Distance never matters. We never failed attending each others birthday party also. My birthday is May and it happens that that's their summer vacation and her is August and that's also our summer vacation.
I remember one time when I'm mad at kuya because he told mommy that I bought art materials. Mom confiscated those that's why I'm crying the whole day. Bea invites me to play badminton.
When we are playing, she was tripped and I can't help but laugh because her face was epic.
"See, I knew it. You're prettier when you laugh." She told me and I was so guilty that day because sinadya niya pala yun and she get wounded because of that.
Her yaya put alcohol on her wound and I know she's in pain, but she don't want me to see that that's why she force herself to act normal and joke around.
That day, I told myself that whatever happens, I will always be at Bea's side especially if she needs me. I'll never leave Beatriz whatever it may cost.
