Chapter 18
Ring
Ring
Ring
I opened my eyes at the sound of the ringing. Who's calling me at this time at midnight? I was sleeping here! Hello!
I sighed annoyed as grabbed my phone near my dresser as I pressed the button.
"Hello?" I said in a raspy voice.
I was still half asleep.
"Helena, it's time to wake up! Look, I'm gonna be late since I have to work a little more in the afternoon so I need you to pick up Carly. Bye, love you!"
"Why are you calling me AT NIGHT?!" I yelled through the phone.
"Uhh..honey. It's ten o' clock. Just turn on your light."
I hit my head with my palm as it made a big 'smack!' sound.
"I'm suppose to be at school! Why couldn't you wake me up?!"
She sighed.
"You looked like you needed some sleep and you have helped me a lot these weeks with Carly. I couldn't ask for much so your present was to sleep in." She said.
"Yea, whatever. Bye. I need some more sleep!" I hung up my phone as I groaned and put the blankets over my head. Jen and her stupid ways. I'm not an early person as you can see...
I groaned again knowing that I had to get up. I dragged myself into the bathroom and did what I did every morning. I put on some simple clothes as put my hair into a high ponytail. I didn't feel to be dressy today.
Surprising..
I grabbed my phone and bag as I walked downstairs and grabbed me a simple apple from the fruit bowl. I bit into it as the watery taste went into my mouth. I wiped off the juice at the side of my mouth with my finger as I opened the door. The sun shined as I blocked it with my hand. I'm blind now!
I groaned and slapped myself as I just notice that I forgot something.I walked back inside the house as went upstairs and saw my skateboard. I happily took it and remembered that I had to feed Cody. I walked downstairs and took out some food and water inside his bowl as I heard him coming behind me.
I smiled at the huskie blue eyed dog as he ate and drank happily. After that I didn't feel like cleaning it so I left it there.
"Cody, wanna go to the park?" I asked as he barked.
"Yea! Let's go boy." I scratched behind his ear as I left the house. I put my board down as I stepped on it and began to push it with my feet. I wasn't going that fast, but I was going the right speed so Cody can catch up. We were almost there until I saw a familiar figure . A figure I haven't seen in a while
"Henry, how have you been?"
I asked from behind as he jumped slightly.
I chuckled and smiled at him as he turned.
"Helena! It's good. I mean I heard about your mother. I'm terribly so sorry Helena. May I wish you hope."
He put a hand on my shoulder as my smile grew bigger.
He looked at Cody.
Cody happily barked as he jumped on Henry.
"Ah, I see Cody remembered you." I said as Henry patted Cody.
"I do too." Henry smiled at Cody as he laughed.
Then an idea came into my mind. I need to help mom now. I needed money so I could maybe buy medicine for her or things we need to survive.
"Henry. Can I ask you something."
I asked as I stood on my tippy toes.
He looked at me for a minute then nodded.
"Well I need money for mom and I want to help take care of Carly and Cody. I need a job. Do you have room for a person?" I asked hopefully.
His eyes widened. Yea. I know he was shocked.
Probably didn't know that I was going to ask that.
"Please. There the only family I have left and I need this-I need-"
I swallowed the knot in my throat as I closed my eyes.
Helena don't cry. Don't cry in front of him again. Be the fighter you are. Don't be weak. Don't show your weak side, show your brave side.
I opened my eyes to see Henry looking at me with a sad expression.
"I can do whatever I have to do." He finally said as I smiled.
I didn't think I could breathe.
"Really?" It came out as a whisper.
He nodded and I smiled and hugged him.
"Thank you! I won't let you down."
I nodded.
"Don't worry. I know you won't."
I guess I got my old job back. I needed this though.
"Thanks Henry. I owe you."
"Aww, you don't have to owe me anything."
We both smiled at each other. He had a confused face on as I realized his pants were vibrating. (Don't think wrong! You nasty people)
He picked out his phone and read it as he sighed.
"I'm sorry Helena. I have to go. It was nice meeting you." He waved at me as I gave a small wave and watched him go.
I sighed and smiled down at Cody.
We walked through the park gate as I saw green. Beautiful green. Nature green. Cody barked as I smiled.
"Boy, go play." I said as I saw him ran.
I nodded my head and sat down at a bench near me.
I smiled at an old lady next to me. She had grey hair that was in a bun and her skin was wrinkled. She had brown eyes that seemed to tell a story and small lips that went In a straight line. She had a dress with a knitted sweater on as she clutched onto it with her hands. She had a ring in her married finger that dazzled in the sun.
She looked forward as she watched the children play. The people walking hand to hand. The sun smiling down at them.
"Your dog is something there."
I turned to her as her eyes were still on the people. Her voice was soft.
"Excuse me?" I looked at her confused as she licked her dry lips.
"Your dog is- Is a good dog. Take care of him. He needs you and you need him."
"How do you know?" I asked.
She nodded as her eyes never looked at mine. There were glued to the area.
"Take care of that man. Tyler I think was his name. You guys make a good couple together. Your mother-"
She finally looked at me.
It was a sad look though.
"Spend more time with her. She needs you as so does Carly. Your friends will need you. A person will come back to you. You will have ups, but a lot of downs. You can't get that to your head or else." She looked at me carefully as I looked at her amazed.
"How do you- you know?" I asked.
She smiled touched my hand.
"You don't remember me don't you?"
I looked at her and squinted my eyes as she looked back to the park.
"I gotta go now. It was really good talking to you again. Just remember the words I'm saying."
I turned to the other opposite as I felt uncomfortable. I breath in a large gulp of air as I turned again to see.....
Nobody.
Where did she go?
I looked everywhere. My eyes looked at everything as I couldn't find her.
I panicked as I didn't see Cody either.
Where is he?
"Cody!" I yelled and tried to find him, but it was helpless.
I felt tears come to my eyes as I didn't see him. Please not now. I need him.
I felt a finger tap my shoulder as I turned. I gasped and hugged him closer to me.
"He had me worried." I said as I bend to Cody's height and patted him as he stuck his tongue out. I smiled bright knowing that he wasn't lost.
He laughed as Cody licked his face.
Cody likes him a lot. I was glad.
"Thank you so much." I said to him.
Tyler smiled.
"I want your dog." He said.
I looked at him.
"Yea nice try, but I won't give him to anyone. He's mine!" I playfully scowled as he laughed again.
His laugh and smile was beautiful. It made me laugh too as we both started to laugh. I don't know, but it felt like a moment.
"Wanna buy some ice cream?" He asked as he pointed to the shop across the street.
"Why not." I shrugged my shoulders as I ruffled his hair.
"Don't you dare touch the hair." He pointed a finger at me as I smiled.
"I just did." I laughed as I ran away from me as Cody happily ran with me.
We ran all the way to the shop as we barged in. Everyone was looking at us crazy, but we didn't care. We just laughed.
"What can I get you miss?" The girl asked.
She was an older woman with dark hair and brown eyes. You could tell that she wasn't that crappy cashier.
"Um, can I get vanilla and a-" I trailed off looking at Tyler.
"Chocolate." He finished .
She smile at us and I pulled out the money.
"No I'm paying." Tyler said as he grabbed his wallet.
"No. I am."
"No."
"Tyler, it isn't a big deal."
"Then if it isn't why can't I pay?"
"Look I can pay for myself."
We argued back and forward as the lady looked at us with a face. Not a bitchy face, but a awww face.
"Fine!" I gave up as I put my money back Into my pocket.
He smiled a devil smile since he knew he won and payed the lady.
"Outdoor or indoor?" She ask.
"Indoor." I said as she nodded and went back.
"Your so stubborn." I so as and rolled my eyes at him.
He just smiled at me the whole time.
God why are boys such a problem. Well I don't regret it.
God made some hot boys which were presents to us as the same for the boys.
"Here you go." She gave us our money back as she handed us our ice cream.
"Have a nice day!" She said cheery as I smiled.
"You guys make the cutest couple ever!" She gushed.
I blushed as I looked at the ground.
I could'nt even look at Tyler right now. I was blushing red now.
"Were not." I smiled away the lady, but she gave me a wink. I sighed and found a table where we can eat.
I licked my ice cream as I tasted heaven in my mouth.
"This taste good."
I looked at Cody who was outside since he couldn't come in.
"We should hurry up so Cody won't feel lonely." We smiled at each other.
"Yep."
I lick my ice cream, but failed as I had the cream on the side of my lip.
I laughed and blushed of embarrassment.
"You got something there." He said.
He took his finger and wiped it off with his finger and licked it.
"It is good." He said and winked at me.
I blushed harder and looked down. I was an easy blusher. You could just see it from far away probably.
We talked for another minute as we finished our dessert as we left.
I held my board to the side as Tyler looked at me.
"What?" I ask him.
"Nothing- it's that you look- beautiful." I breath another air as I blushed more. My face will break any minute now....
"Thanks. You ain't so bad yourself." I bumped shoulders with him as he laughed.
"You need to teach me how to skate." He pointed to my board as I smiled and stopped.
He stopped too and looked at me.
"Helena?"
"Let's start now." I grinned evilly as I looked at Cody who barked in agreement.A/n
