Chapter 51

Her hand in mine was heartbreaking. I didn't want to cry now. I sighed as I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Is mom gonna be okay?" Carly asked beside me. I licked my dry lips and shrugged.

"I don't know Carly." I said honestly.

She pouted and grabbed mom's hand. "Please wake up!" She yelled. I shook my head as some tears started building up in my eyes.

"No Carly. You can't just wake her up, she needs her rest." I said shakily.

She closed her eyes and let go of mom's hands. "There has to be a way!" My brow raised up in confusion.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"A way that mom can get better." I nodded. "We just don't know that way Carly." I said softly.

It was silent for a few minutes before Carly asked where is dad. "Dad is somewhere busy." I didn't really know where he was.

"After we finish seeing mom, we get a taxi." I finished.

She but her lip. "Do we have to leave mom?"

I looked at her to mom. I did see similarities in her. She looked a little more like dad but had mom's personality while I was the opposite.

I had a lot of people say that I looked like my mom more than dad. We all have the smirk though. That was a fact.

"I don't want to leave mom either Carly, but we have school tomorrow and you know how dad is."

She nodded understanding. "Yea I know. I just don't want to leave her. I want to care for her like you do with lots of people."

I was silent, I didn't say anything. She sighed and looked down, her hair on her shoulders now.

"I wish I was more like you." I shook my head. "No. You should be yourself. I think your fine and beautiful the way you are." I said quickly.

I mean who would want to be me? My mother is sick with cancer and I have a fucked up life.

She sighed as she looked up at me. "Helena, what happens if we lose...her?"

I shook my head. "I couldn't even think of that." She nodded with me.

It was silent again. That's the problem. I wanted all the silence to be away. I wanted happiness.. This silence wasn't a good one.

"Hey.." I said as I turned to her, trying to take the tension away. I licked my bottom lip. "Remember that time when it was Christmas and the tree fell."

She smiled remembering, she nodded her head. "Yea! I remember it all! That was so funny!"

I giggled as my mouth went over my hand. "You started it first though." She opened her mouth and gasped. "No! It was you!"

"No! I remember exactly like it was yesterday." I said and smiled.

"It's Christmas! It's Christmas! It's Christmas!" I heard a high pitch cheery voice.

I groaned as I put my covers under my head. I felt a small body jumping on me.

"Stop it Carly!" I mumbled.

"Mom!"

Carly stopped as she took my covers off. "But it's Christmas!"

"And I'm sleeping!" I yelled and threw the covers back on my head as I snuggled up to the warmth.

"Come down! Come down! Let's wake up mom and dad!"
