Dan had offered to take me for food and help me find a place to stay. I couldn't believe someone could be so kind. After being used to nothing but hatred and spite, he couldn't have been more different. He'd told me that he'd just broken up with his girlfriend and knew how I must've been feeling right then. If only he knew the truth. But I couldn't tell him. He'd soon change his mind about helping me.

He was pointing out land marks as we walked down the streets. I was in awe by how busy it was. I'd moved to Leeds with Steve but had never really gone outside during the day. He'd kept me locked away, only allowing me out to do his dirty work, and only ever at night. I doubted anyone would be missing me right then. Apart from him. Who would he slap around now?

'Big Ben is just across there, somewhere.' He pointed.

'I'll have to go and look at it one day.' I told him. One day when I had a job and money, I thought bitterly. What was I supposed to do until then? Sleep on the streets? Beg for food? Anything seemed better than being back in Leeds.
