I didn't even know where she'd come from. The train had been moving for five minutes before she sat down in front of me. Instantly I knew something was wrong. She'd sat there fidgeting, her eyes were red and she looked exhausted. She looked utterly lost. Her clothes were too big for her and in need of washing, her skin was pale and thin, her long brown hair slightly greasy and pulled into a pony tail at the base of her neck.
I didn't really know where to start to help this poor girl. I didn't want to intrude on her private matters but I could hardly ignore her crying. I'd only asked if she was ok when she burst into tears. I instantly sat beside her and hugged her, which, if anything, seemed to make her cry even more.
