Everything Started from Here
Part 6

After accidentally cutting my finger with a knife, I found my self pressing it with the tip of my nail. Because of this, the wound healed very slowly.

Every time I pressed the wound, a sharp pain shot through my finger. Sometimes, it hurt so much, I was close to tears. But it helped me feel awake again.

Even now, I sometimes feel empty. Everything suddenly feels meaningless and all my energy disappears.

"How much longer do we have to walk?" Taehyung asked.

Hoseok was at a loss for words.
"It's weird. I'm sure it must be somewhere around here."

We all stopped to look around. The sound of the waves breaking on the shore was the only thing filling the void of silence under the clear sky. Hundreds of thousands of pebbles were scattered across the beach like grains of sand. The rock in the photo was nowhere to be seen.

"Should we keep going just a bit further?"

"I can't move another step."

"I'm starving."

"I'm thirsty."

In the middle of our complaints, Jimin let out a deep sigh, his eyes fixed on his phone. Taehyung peeked his head over to take a look at Jimin's phone as well. He kicked a pebble violently.

"A high end resort will be built on this beach," Jimin read the article aloud. "The rock previously on the beach was blown to pieces due to blocking the first and second floor's view of the beach."

The area we were in was a development zone. We all noticed that yellow bands were installed along the beach , huge excavators roaming around in the background.

As we walked on, a sign reading 'Seawall Construction' came into view.

"I guess we came to the right place," Hoseok said, tapping a pebble with the tip of his sneaker.

All the pebbles scattered across the beach was all that was left of the blown up rock.

"It's okay. There's no such thing as a rock that can wishes come true anyways," Namjoon consoled Hoseok, lightly patting his shoulder.

"We didn't have any dreams in the first place."

"No possibility of us realizing them end if we did."

"It's a luxury for us to dream."

Everyone tried to say something positive, but it wasn't really working. We weren't expecting much, but we didn't come all this way to see this either.

Yoongi, who told me not to have dreams because they were too tough, was no different. After looking at the sea blankly for a few minutes, he began to bite his nails again. He seemed completely unaware of what he was doing.

"Yoongi."
He turned to look at me.
"Don't..."

My next words were interrupted by a startlingly loud drilling sound. We all turned at the same time to watch the construction work start up again. The loud crash sounded as if it was coming from the solid rock they were drilling into. The surrounding air rolled and pitched heavily.

Yoongi frowned and tapped my shoulder.
"What did you say?"

He mumbled something else, but I couldn't hear anything.

"Don't do that," I shouted, my hands cupped around my mouth.

Yoongi didn't seem to hear me. He shook his head again, frowning.

I was going to yell again, but he already stopped biting his nails.

The sea was behind him. The countless pebbles crunched beneath my feet as I walked.

The rock must've been huge, powerful and old enough to make people's dreams come true. But now, it was no more than a pile of gravel.
