After Returning from the Sea
Part 16

The inside of the container was fully decorated. The food Hoseok brought was set out on the table and Christmasy ornaments were dangling on the walls. Jungkook sat in the middle.

Only three cups were filled. Hoseok dropped off the food before going to work his part time shift. Namjoon was coming later after his shift ended. No one could get hold of Yoongi. Seokjin said he was coming, but he wasn't here yet. Taehyung was mostly silent.  Was he still uncomfortable being here?

I'd practically dragged Taehyung here. I had no idea how to liven up the mood. It was impossible. But this was how we were most of the time. No one reached out to others first. No one knew how the others were doing.

Maybe it was inevitable that we drifted apart. We were no longer those students who'd ditched school to hang out together. We all had our own commitments and issues now. We couldn't just brush that aside to be with each other.

As for me, I had to work hard to stay out of the hospital and decide whether I'd go back to school. I had to prove to my parents and myself that I was okay. I had to make sure I wasn't a burden to anyone.

After some time, Jungkook hesitantly stood up.

"You should stay a little longer. Namjoon will be done with his shift soon. He'll want to see you," I said, holding onto Jungkook.

Jungkook laughed.
"I'll take a raincheck."

And so we cleared the table. I couldn't stop Jungkook from leaving anyways.

We parted ways around 10:30 and  used our phone flashlight to find our way home.

As I crossed the railroad and waited for the bus to come, I watched Jungkook and Taehyung walk together.
