Staring into a bathroom mirror was something that Luna Pearce despised doing everyday. She hated seeing what would stare back at her. All she saw was a sad girl with no hope, and it only ever made her feel worse. However, the girl had to do it. Luna forced herself to look at her own reflection just so she could see how much she was suffering, in hopes that one day it will be enough to actually do something about it.

There Luna stood, in front of the mirror where she would cry everyday just seeing how horrible she looked.

It was late, almost midnight. Luna couldn't sleep with her back aching, so she strolled into her bathroom that was connected to her room. Once she switched the light on, the girl didn't fail to catch a glimpse of herself through the wide mirror. Of course, Luna couldn't help but stare at herself. Her eyes furrowed, hating the way her hair was and how evident the bags around her eyes were.

It had been a long night and Rick was extra angry early on that day, not hesitating to take it out on the young girl.

Luna was exhausted, yet somehow she couldn't fall asleep. Being sleep deprived wasn't unusual for her. The girl was never getting a good night's sleep with Rick just down the hall.

Luna walked out of the bathroom, switching the light off and being faced with the darkness that surrounded her room. The only source of light was the moon that radiated its brightness into the room. The girl looked at her window, contemplating whether or not if she wanted to go out on the fire escape. After a moment, the girl sighed as she unlocked her window, immediately being met with the cold wind. The breeze dusted her hair, blowing it in different directions as she stepped out. It was freezing, but Luna needed a breath of fresh air. The only clothing the girl had on was a plain t-shirt and some pajama shorts, making her feel extra cold while standing in the center of the small fire escape, leaning over the railing.

The girl always came out here, finding it easier to think than being inside. Sometimes Luna would think about climbing down, getting lower and lower until her feet met the ground and she would be able to run away from this horrible place. God, she thought about it all the time, but for some reason, she couldn't bring herself to do it. There was something holding her back and she knew that it was her mother.

No matter how much she wanted to, Luna knew she couldn't leave her mom. Her mother was still a good person, she just had a shitty way of showing it ever since Luna's father died. It was hard on both of them, but they had different ways to cope with it.

There was also a small part of Luna that thought Rick would find her if she ever left. Rick was evil but he was also smart. The girl knew better than to try anything, so for now, she was stuck.

"Hey."

Luna jumped, swiftly turning around with her back hitting the rail.

"What the-"
