Luna smiled as she opened the oven, examining the chocolate cake that was slowly rising to the rim of the pan. The girl wasn't much of a baker, but she always loved trying new things when it came to experimenting with something like this.

It was her dad's birthday, and Luna was determined to make it a day to remember.

Right when Luna got out of school, she practically rushed to the nearby food market and grabbed all the ingredients she needed to bake a chocolate cake and some cookies.

This day was always special to Luna, mostly because it was filled with so much love. She loved it even more than Thanksgiving and Christmas, that's how much it meant to her. For the past 15 years, Luna always made sure to make her dad feel loved on his birthday. She wanted to show him her appreciation for all he did for his wife and daughter.

So with that, Luna was baking her little heart out. She was desperate to finish before her dad came home from work.

Luna was startled when she heard someone walk in the house, hoping it wasn't her father who might've decided to come home early. The girl sighed in relief when it was Shannon who walked in the door.

"Ooh," the woman smiled. "Something smells good."

"It's dad's cake." Luna smiled just as big.

"I bet it's gonna taste delicious." Her mom said, stepping into the kitchen to see all the mess.

"I'll clean it up," Luna told her. "I promise."

Shannon leaned herself against the counter, crossing her arms. "It's okay, sweetie." She said. "Don't worry about it."

"Do you think he'll like it?" Luna asked, referring to the cake that was currently baking. Her eyes scanned the icing and sprinkles that she planned to decorate the cake with. It wasn't much, but Luna hoped that it was enough to put a smile on her dad's face.

Shannon gave her daughter a loving look, reaching out and pulling the brunette in for a side hug.

"He'll love it." She whispered.

Luna rested her head on her mom's shoulder, letting out a deep sigh. The girl loved her parents with all of her being, and she couldn't believe how lucky she was to have two people who loved her unconditionally.

"Now go upstairs and get changed." Shannon urged, laughing a bit to herself. "You're a mess."

Luna rolled her eyes as she looked down at her batter stained clothes. She wasn't exactly the cleanest when it came to doing anything in the kitchen.
