"I know this must be very difficult for you. Losing a parent is never easy."
Hearing those words made the 15 year old want to punch the woman in the face, her tone and false sympathy only agitating the girl more as she quietly sat on the gray couch, hugging one knee to her chest.
The girl sat still, a blank expression on her face as she focused on absolutely nothing. It felt suffocating in the room, the clock driving the young teenager insane as it just ticked by over and over again. It was quiet, the girl not muttering a single word for the entirety of this session. It was useless, and she didn't know why she was constantly being forced to sit there.
Therapy.
It seemed like the only solution for Luna's mother when the patriarch of the small family passed away, not knowing another solution to control her daughter's behavior ever since he'd been gone. Instead of actually being there for Luna, Shannon only ever wanted to drink her sorrows away and not deal with anyone else. Being an alcoholic changed her after the death of her husband, and it seemed like her daughter didn't matter to her anymore.
Luna was acting out. Destroying her entire room, staying out all night in hopes somehow she would die, and just kicking and screaming to herself asking God why it wasn't her instead of her dad. Everything went to shit, but Luna had no idea how much worse it was bound to get.
So, Shannon sent her daughter to see a psychiatrist, hoping the girl would come to her senses and stop with her ruthless acts. But in reality, both of them just needed each other. With Shannon's drinking problem and Luna's depression, they should have been there for each other and not just ignore the fact that they were still mother and daughter, even without a father and husband.
"Luna?" The voice echoed. "Is there anything you need to say?"
The clock continued to tick, making the girl want to grab it and smash the living shit out of it. This whole thing was insane, and Luna knew this wasn't going to help her.
It had only been a couple weeks since she lost her dad, and her mom was already sending her to these unnecessary appointments, claiming that she was out of control.
"Time is almost up dear." The shrink spoke again. "It might help to get things off your chest."
Luna quietly scoffed, her eyes slowly travelling up to eye the woman sitting across from her, a notepad resting on her lap.
"You don't know anything." She whispered, licking her cracked lips. "Talking to you isn't going to help me with anything, nothing will."
"But it might." The older woman stated. "You just went through something devastating. Bottling up your thoughts will only make things worse if you don't-"
