Riley was put into an adoption center when she was nearly 5 years old. She had been in multiple foster homes throughout her life. She has no friends and hasn't stayed in even one foster home for more than a month.

I woke up in my bed with the sun shining in my eyes. I sit up and smile. It's almost Spring, finally, the weather is gonna be great. I grab my phone and take a picture.

I set my phone back down next to me, I take a deep breath and get up from my bed. I open my door and peep my head out and see no one in the rest of the apartment. I go back in and close the door. I walk over to my closet and grab some clothes. I brushed through my hair then walked out of my room. I didn't see Colby so I walked to his bedroom door and knocked.
Colby: Yeah?
I walk in and see him and Katrina.
Colby: perfect timing, Kat and I were talking about what we were gonna do- well what I'm gonna do, for Sam, for valentine's day.
Riley: why didn't you come ask me?
Katrina: Because Colby is Sam's bestfriend and he knows more about him then you do
Riley: oh...I guess that's true
Katrina: I didn't mean to come off as rude, it's just kinda true.
Riley: no I get it, that makes one hundred percent sense.
Riley: but why was the door closed?
Colby: you were asleep, we didn't wanna wake you
Riley: that makes sence, thanks..
Katrina: you ok?
Riley: yeah, I'm gonna go hang out with Tara since you guys are busy, Colby is that ok?
Colby: yeah go ahead
Colby gives a soft smile to me as a walk out. As I close the door behind me I hear their conversation continue. I go to my room, put my shoes on and leave the apartment. I walk down the hall to Jake's apartment and knock.
Jake opens the door.
Jake: hey Riley!
Riley: hi!
Jake: what's up?
Riley: you wanna take me to Tara's?
I ask with puppy dog eyes. He laughs.
Jake: I can, I mean I was already gonna go there in a few minutes so I'll take you with
Riley: yay!
Jake's phone buzzes, he opens the door the rest of the way and grabs his phone out of his pocket.
Jake: crap
Riley: what?
Jake: Tara said she wants to go out somewhere.
Riley: which means I cant go...
I say assuming that's what he was gonna finish with
Jake: I-
Riley: it's fine, go spend time with your girlfriend *small laughs*
Jake: are you sure?
Riley: *nods*
Jake: ok, bye...
Jake slides on his shoes and we walk back out of his apartment. He shuts the door behind him and walks off. I make my way back to mine and Colby's apartment when my phone starts ringing. I answer not reading the contact as I keep walking.
Riley: hello?
