Jaekang Heo was born on the 18th of June, 1997. He was 16 when he died.
Jaekang was innocent, cheerful and kind. He barely fought with his siblings, and studied hard, often getting praise from teachers. He sometimes argued with his parents, but felt guilty afterwards. His last family trip was going fishing with them during winter. He loved animals and insects, so much so he wanted to become a zoologist.
During the sinking, Jaekang called his mother. His last words on that call were simple, "The boat is tilted and water comes in.". His mother didn't take this seriously, because Jaekang sounded so calm. She still feels guilty about that.
His body was recovered shortly after the accident and returned to his family. He now rests at Ansan Sky Memorial Park.
