Dayoung Kim was born on the 14th of July, 1997. She was 16 when she died.
Dayoung had two older brothers, one of them was in the army and the other was in college. Her best friend was her father. She wore his clothes, dyed his hair and bought him small gifts all the time. Her last contact with him was when the ferry departed. She sent him a picture of the cabin. Her other friend was Jihye Kwon from the same class. Dayoung helped her family with housework, but she couldn't support them financinally after his father's business went bankrupt. She was a fan of the idol group Shiny. Dayoung's motto was ''To do implies you can do it'' She focused on her studies, and was often the top of the class. If she wasn't studying, she was dancing to Shiny's music. Her dream was to become a doctor, so she could help sick people.
Her body was recovered and returned to her parents. She now rests at Hwaseong Sky Memorial Park.
