Choye Kim was born on the 29th of December, 1997. She was 16 when she died.
Choye's best friend was her mother. She always responded when her mother called out her name, and hugged her when she was feeling down. Her mother feels saddened tha nowdays when she calls her name, there's no response. Choye's dad was busy with work, and she didn't see him that much. She took care of her two sisters like a mother would, and of course went shopping with them. Choye was physically weak until second grade, but she remained strong and had a bright personality, with some resiliency and quietness. She helped with housework, and often looked after her younger siblings. Her dream was to get a job where she could help disabled children.
Choye's last text message was to her mother during the evening, day before the sinking. ''I'm going to sleep early.'' After that, her mother heard no words from Choye
Her body was recovered and returned to her parents. She now rests at Hwaseong Sky Memorial Park.
