Jeongin Lee was born on the 2nd of July, 1997. He was 16 when he died.
Jeongin was the eldest child, only having one younger sister. He grew up without a mother and had a close relationship with his father. Jeongin liked two things, soccer and video games. He was very competetive and good in both. He had many friends, and a girlfriend, Sujin Kim from class 1. Jeongin's dream was to become a fashion model because of his figure.
He had called his father during the sinking at 9:17am. ''The ship has tilted 40 to 60 degrees, call 119.'' Jeongin explains, and his father tries to get help to the site. He calls the school to confirm that rescue is coming, but he hears that no student named Jeongin Lee exists. His father was furious.
When the bodies were being retrieved, the divers found Jeongin. He had tied a string around his wrist, and at the other end they found his girlfriend Sujin. They tried to get the two back to the surface, but Jeongin didn't move, only Sujin moved. The divers had to 'drag' Jeongin behind Sujin to get him to the surface. They knew they weren't going to live long, and made sure they aren't going to get seperated. Jeongin wasn't wearing a life jacket. It's possible that if they hadn't tied their wrists together, Jeongin would be among the missing today.
He now rests at Ansan Sky Memorial Park.
