Chapter 53 : Closer

Narrator's POV :

When Kirino went to school and saw Shindou, she immediately wanted to boil him. Just how could he do that ? Was he out of his mind ? Kirino doesn't know. Of course, she had to continue with her plan; otherwise she wouldn't be able to make him get a taste of his own medicine. So, she acted normal, as if nothing ever happened and she doesn't know that the Kira Corporation building was just recently in flames. "Good morning !" She greeted in a cheerful voice. Shindou turned around to see the source of the sweet voice and found his "best friend" there behind him. She was smiling and waving at him before catching up to the male. "Morning, Kirino." He smiled. Oh he had just loved how she was talking to him again. It was like fate had given him a chance. They duo started walking in the hallways, making their way to their classroom while chatting about random things. "Hey Kirino ?" Shindou looked at the girl and she looked back, curious. "What is it ?" "Did Masaki talk to you this week ?" He asked her. He wanted to know if she knew anything about the recent fire or if Masaki told her about it. She pretended to look up and think before shaking her head 'no'. "We haven't been talking yet. He's been silent since Tuesday." She replied. It wasn't a lie; Masaki has been inactive since that horrid day, and they haven't talked at all. "Oh, okay." The second-year boy smiled in delight. 'She doesn't know a thing !' He told himself how lucky he was today. "Why do you ask ?" She asked back.

"Oh. I'm just curious about you guys's relationship. How have things been between you two ?"

"I'm a little worried because Masaki is silent, but we're good, I think."

Finally they reached their classroom where they decided to sit together. The tables in their school had changed. It was longer but still had the same under table to put your things in, only with a divider in the middle. Now, you have to sit with a partner, and the both of them wanted to talk some more so there they sat in the last row next to the window. Shindou sat on the left while Kirino on the right. "How about you and Ibuki ? How have you two been ?" The graynette's face darkened at the mention of that name and didn't want to talk about it, but Kirino was asking. He couldn't reject her. "We've...broken up." He looked at his lap and his eyes started to fill with hatred and anger towards his former significant other. "Oh, that's...sad." Kirino's voice was laced with worry and concern. Her acting was off the charts, since in reality she couldn't care less. Her left arm wrapped around the other boy and she drew him into a side hug where the male complied. He rested his head on her shoulder while she rested her head on his. "It's alright. Sometimes...the people who we thought we're going to spend the rest of our lives with aren't really the right people at all. You'll be okay." She said, comforting him. He only sighed in relaxation and used his right arm to hug her back.

The other students in the same room started looking at them and smiling, specially the girls. She could hear some of them whispering amongst their group of friends.

'Aww ! They're so cute together !'

'But isn't Kirino-chan already dating that first year ? Kira Masaki, was it ?'

'Mou~ But Shindou-kun and Kirino-chan look so much better with each other ! We can just forget about the other guy.'

'You're right. These two are definitely meant to be together.'

Shindou, who had also heard the whispers, begun smiling. 'They think so too.' he thought to himself. Kirino held the urge to roll her eyes and tell them it was all an act. It took some effort, but she only smiled to hide her true feelings. A minute or two later, the teacher came in and everyone went back to their seats and remained standing. Shindou and Kirino also had to retract themselves from each other since they've still been hugging and stood up. "Good morning students." The Sensei greeted. "Good morning Sensei." They all greeted back at her. She motioned for them to sit down and begun with the lesson for today. The graynette was happily writing down notes and Kirino was reading her textbook while listening to the teacher. It went on for what seemed like eternity until the teacher turned around from the board and announced that it was lunch time. The students cheered and some stretched due to the constant writing and reading. Kirino placed her book under the table and looked at Shindou. "Shindou, let's have lunch together." The pinknette said. "Sure." The other replied happily. After clearing their desks of paper and other things the two brought out their lunches and showed each other what the maids have prepared for them. "Itadakimas~" They said in unison before digging in into their food. "Kirino, try this. It's delicious !" Shindou picked up a shrimp from his bento with his chopsticks and Kirino knew he was going to feed her.
