It has been now a couple of years since you stayed with Rui and his so called 'family'. Yet the bond you two shared was something different than the one with his created family. The white haired demon boy loved your presence and would always feel empty if you weren't by his side for quite a time. But as you liked him too, and as he was the only you trusted, you promised to be by his side as much as you could. Because he cared. The winter was soon to come and as you were much more fragile, the cold temperatures and frost harmed you in a way, but Rui's 'mother' noticed your shaken frame in the corner and brought you over part of a warm blanket (just imagine it..for the story please-). "Here, have it dear. You look very pale and cold...Rui wouldn't want you to freeze out here". You noticed how she gulped at the demon boy's name, but you soon felt warm as the woman put the blanket around you and secured it so no cold would reach you. She smiled gently and disappeared soon again. 'It surely gets boring when I have to be all alone here...Rui..hopefully he's doing fine'

You bit your lip and shuddered at the cool wind blowing in through the broken window. Lonely and empty. What a great combination between these two feelings. It was so nostalgic to the life you had before meeting Rui. Abandoned and left all alone to survive. You huffed sadly, standing up and going to the front door. Oh how long was it since you left for the outside? Days..? Months..? Or even maybe years? The lower five demon never allowed you to go outside unless he or a part of his family member looked over you. But yet again the one and only word repeatedly lingered on your mind; weak. What else could you be? It was always you who had been a person that only stood in the way. Not even your parents cared as they have should. The door creaked loudly as you opened it, the pure white almost blinding your sight. The blanket wrapped around your body did really warm you, but the fact you had no shoes was funny. Smiling sadly, you stepped on feet into the snow, crunching so as you did. 'So pretty..but extremely cold..at least I should be able to walk around for some minutes'.
Taking rapid steps, you tried to be as hushed as you could and admired the winter wonderland. Strutting forwards, an enormous amount of energy rushed through you, but not like the kind of blissful feeling..more of a gloomy one.

A joyless smile plastered across your pale face and red cheeks. The cold really did get to you, lungs already aching and it only has been just few minutes. As you stood near a fallen tree, you sat yourself on it, curling in the blanket as much ad you could. Not long after salty tears prickled at the corners of your eyes. How sad it is to be left alone again, right? Sobbing quietly, you hummed a song you learned from an older lady that actually had raised you. „(Y/N)-chan. Who allowed you to be outside in such a cold time? Has mother been forcing you out?! Has-", he stopped his speech as he looked closer at your face. Tears that hurt him. He never intended to make you cry, but something inside his head told him that it wasn't his family. "N-no...it..it's f-fine". He approached you and sat besides you, his hand holding your tightly. "Are you feeling alone? Did somebody hurt you?". Your glossy and puffy eyes looked into his, confused at how fast he guessed what it was. „M-my..past haunts..me..a-and I..d-don't want t-to...feel pain...loneliness...sorrow..". He slowly, still awkwardly, put his hands around your wrapped up frame and cuddled you closer to him. 'Why didn't you tell me?' Was the question you thought he'd ask now, but he only hugged you closer to himself.

„I apologize for letting you feel so terrible (Y/N)-chan. My business had me kept away for too long. But from now on I'll promise you that I'll repay you...and be here for you. Just like you did for me". He stroked your hair, making it messier than it was before, but nevertheless you had enjoyed it when the boy would get affectionate. His touch was all you needed to make you feel wanted in someone's life, loved, cherished, and many more. „Give me your hand". He remarked, you pulled your hand from the warm cover and grasped his white hand. Rui walked back into the house with you were a small fire was made for you, and food plus water were sat on the table. „Rui..? What is this?". You pointed to everything that wasn't in here before. "A small smile crossed his face; "Of course this is for you. I still owe you a lot since you already did so much for me. I had sent my siblings to sneak into the houses of humans and bring food for you...I don't want you to starve". It was only for a minute, a bright and warm feeling crossed your whole freezing body, making all the sorrowful thoughts wash away.

..Rui really does care..

After eating, he had brought you back to the front where he wrapped you up again. But this time he snuggled inside with you and give more warmth for your body. „Thank you Rui-kun..it means a lot to me..not much but still everything". Leaning closer to him, you laid your heavy and sleepy head on his shoulder and slowly drifted off into your lands of dreams. Meanwhile Rui smiled the whole time, holding the person he cherishes the most close to him and letting nothing hurt you again.

'I never really told you that and I know that you'd reject that stupid answer to get to your heart, but you are my biggest comfort and you'd always find the right way to calm me, make me feel loved and showing that I am more worth it than those foolish people who abandoned me...'

Phew- wow it's been now quite awhile since I posted a new chapter. I really apologize for the long waiting (i have also other stuff to do) but I give my best to keep you all updated and having fun readin my one shots!
