Dead people receive more flowers than living ones because regret is stronger than gratitude.

The tranquil atmosphere seemed to brought comfort to the boy, reassuring him amidst the silence in the room.

The strawberry flavoured milk carton was still full, his grip on it tight to make sure he doesn't accidentally drop it while so many thoughts started to flood in his mind. He couldn't possibly forget the incident that easily, not when the dreadful feeling of regret starts to eat away his heart at his immature action of leaving the girl alone in the hallways. But who was to blame him? Maybe he was too overwhelmed with so many emotions that made him unconsciously lash out his anger at the girl.

"Penny for your thoughts?", the woman softly asked, her eyes travelled to look over her suddenly so quiet son.

Shoto raised his gaze to look into her grey eyes, those orbs that previously looked so empty, so emotionless yet the faint feeling of love still hid in there somewhere for her son. Shoto appreciated how his mother tried to read him, the all so dense son of hers who owned the best ability in hiding away his real emotions.

"Mom, how do we know if someone truly trusts us?"

Shoto's voice was monotonous as he asked this, placing the milk on the small coffee table beside her bed. Rei raised an eyebrow at this, surprised at how the boy was asking her a question this time. Usually, Rei would be the one who would ask him about his school days, and how hero training was going on for him.

"How, you may ask?", she questioned, pausing for a few seconds to think about her answer. When she finally does, a smile curved onto her lips.

"Simply by the way they act around you. They become compassionate, they respect your boundaries, they have humility.", she pauses, figuring out her next words. "They'll try their hardest to connect with you. Not in an evil away, of course.", she lets out a breathy chuckle. "They learn about you. And it shows. In your toughest times, they're the first ones to be there for you, even though they're not in their best emotional condition."

Shoto listened, his gaze locked on his fingers which were fidgeting on his lap. The silence his mother gave him granted his some time to connect the dots between her mother's descriptions and the image of the girl flooding in his thoughts. If he had to be honest, the girl fulfilled every single one of them. And it brought joy to his heart, although it never showed in his eyes.
