She closed her eyes, exhaling a deep breath softly.
Even after three full days, the same exact sentence kept rewinding back repeatedly in her mind, as if they were played on a mixtape. She couldn't possibly forget how gentle his voice was when the phrase escaped his lips, which was probably one of the reasons why she couldn't erase the scene so easily from her head.
"Shocking, isn't it? I'm sorry Airi. I just can't help falling for you."
Airi gritted her teeth. What the fuck have you done, Airi Himari?
Suddenly, a familiar feeling of warmth comforted her clenched fists, immediately snapping her eyes open. As if she could already guess the person behind it, her lips curved into a faint smile when she dropped her gaze onto his gentle hands which lightly stroked her clenched ones,
"You're going to hurt yourself if you keep on doing that.", Shoto reminded, mild and soft.
Due to her tightly clenched fists, she didn't even realise how it created faint red marks on her palms by her pressed fingernails. As an attempt to calm down, Airi loosened her hands and leaned on the bus seat with a sigh.
"Thank you."
He studied how frequently the girl closed her eyes, inhaling and exhaling deep breaths as if she was nervous to face something. Today was their Provisional Hero's License exam, but even so, he knew the girl wouldn't be so anxious for the test.
"You don't feel like yourself lately. Is there something bothering you?"
Airi opened her eyes at the sound of his question, but she refused to look into his heterochromic eyes because she knew she would only find pure concern in them.
"There's....just.....a lot going in my mind for now. Maybe I'm just nervous for the exam. Thank you for asking, Shoto.", a thankful smile curved onto her lips when she connected her eyes with his softly gazed ones.
Airi wasn't wrong when she said only Shoto could see through her hidden feelings just like a piece of glass. And though it wasn't obvious, his face held the urge to inquire the girl further. It wasn't fair if only Shoto would tell her everything, but Airi refused to tell him anything. The fact at how Airi could easily mask away her problems with her typical bubbly personality in front of others continued to amaze Shoto every single day. Yet in reality, she was lost in her thoughts, in a sea of unanswered questions and mixed up emotions.
