The world is just another name for despair. I am all of my joy and anxiety. It repeats everyday.

Each passing second felt so dreadfully eerie to her ears.

She zipped up her black hoodie, tucking her hands into the large pockets. Looking at herself in her own reflection, she could see the dark eyebags beginning to form under her eyes. The longer she stared, the more she couldn't recognise herself.

Or was it because she hated the weakness reflecting on the mirror so much, she didn't want to admit it was indeed, Airi Himari looking back at her.

She looked away. The clock on the wall showed 11:56pm. Almost midnight. It was almost time. However, they were peculiarly late today.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

The three knocks on her door snapped her back to reality. Confusion plastered on her expression when she twisted the doorknob to see who would be up so late, especially on weekdays. Who could it be? Could it be.... No....

"Why aren't you asleep yet?"

I knew it. Airi thought furiously to herself. Looking back into his heterochromic orbs, she could only manage a soft sigh.

"I... can't sleep...."

"Really? Don't you have any other reasons?", he arched an eyebrow. "Explain the eyebags under your eyes then, Airi."

She blinked repeatedly, trying her ultimate best to hold in the tears from forming in her eyelids. Airi bit her lips, glancing at the clock now and then to make sure she doesn't miss a single minute. Once she slips a second, the boy infront of her would know.

"I'll go to sleep now.", she lets out a yawn in order to convince him. "I was finishing my homework just now."

Airi thought this was enough to at least, cause him to leave, but he didn't budge. Instead, his deep eyes were locked into hers in a gaze which clearly yelled he didn't believe her one bit.

"It's them, isn't it?"

Her heartbeat stopped beating right at the second the question left his lips. She shifted her gaze away from him, and looked at the clock on her wall again.
