Once the heart gets too heavy with pain, people don't cry.
They just turn silent.
Completely silent.

She stumbled a few step backwards, her irises dilating in shock.

Ichika looked into her daughter's figure equally in surprise, the blood rushing through her veins when she knew there was no way back now. Taking a step forward bravely, she tried to reach for her daughter's hands,

"M-Mari..... darling.... I can explain-"

"W-W-What's happening......", she took a trembling step backwards. Her eyes reflected rage and betrayal when she lifted them to look into her mother's amber ones.

"....Mom...?"

A deep snicker was heard from the crowd of villains beside Ichika. "I thought you told her already, Ichika.", Shigaraki then turned to look at the black haired male, a tint of fury flickering in his crimson orbs. "I thought I told you to not let her in just yet."

Dabi argued back. "She was the one who didn't listen to me!"

"Enough. Both of you were arguing too loudly. It was impossible for her to not hear your conversation from outside.", Kurogiri deeply voiced out, making his presence known.

"Shut the fuck up. All of you.", the girl snapped, earning a few shocked looks from the villains themselves. "Someone explain to me what the hell is happening now."

At the sound of her request, the whole room turned silent. Their eyes trailed over to look at the woman, the mother of the victim, as if they were sending an indirect message for her to give the explanation her daughter deserved. Sensing their deep gazes on her figure, she took a deep breath and started slow and steady,

"I'm sorry, Mari. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier. I really-"

"Was this the reason why you never returned home for a whole year?", she cuts of her mother's sentence, unable to control the impatience in her tone.

Ichika knew there was no use in lying anymore. She owed her an explanation. A proper one this time. With a short nod, she answered with guilt. "Y-Yes."

Airi couldn't possibly process the whole situation before her within a short time. When she saw the look of guilt sweeping over her mother's features, and how her gaze avoided her daughter's eyes at all cost, she couldn't help but to let out a scoff in disbelief.
