Ty's POV:
As I lay in bed, rain slowly trickling down my window, I get a text.

Cece
hey babe. u ok?

Ty
No. Can we talk tmrw?

Cece
sure, where? when?

Ty
After school, Wharton's. That good for u?

Cece
sure

I have to break up with Cece. I can't keep stringing her along. The longer I wait the worse it will be. I fall asleep nervous for the coming day.

"Tyler!" I hear Mum yell.

"Get up! You are gonna be late for school!" I quickly jump out of bed. Being yelled at is a great way to wake up.

After I shower, get dressed and eat breakfast, I grab by bike and ride to school. Kyle apparently couldn't be bother waiting for me, so he left ages ago.

Silently, I slip into my seat in English, late. I wish Annie was a Senior, then we would have classes together and we could talk again.

While walking to my next class I pass Annie in the hallway. I go to talk to her but she pushes past me, ignoring me completely.

I guess I assumed we could eventually recover what was left of the friendship we have built for out whole lives. Apparently not.

The rest of the day drags on and on as I try to think of what to say to Cece. I dread the end of the day, that must eventually come.

As I am going over what to say in Science the final bell rings. I half listen as our teacher talks about some new essay, even though I swear I only just handed in the last one.

"Dude, hey? You listening?" Gabe elbows me in the ribs.

"Huh!"

"Obviously not." Luke laughs as we walk to our lockers.

"I was just saying the essay sounds boring. But, there's gonna be a party at Payton's place on Wednesday, you coming?" Gabe asks, closing his locker.

"Yeah, sure. I'm breaking up with Cece today." I blurt out.

"Really? Took you long enough." Luke laughs.

"I'm kinda nervous actually." Cece is my first proper girlfriend, that wasn't just a two day "relationship" in grade school.

"Dude, it's gonna be fine." Gabe reassures me.

"Yeah, it will be fine." I sigh, as we walk towards the exit.

I pace back and forth in front of Wharton's, waiting for Cece.

"Hey babe!" I hear her say from behind me, and I basically jump three feet into the air.

"Haha, sorry! Didn't mean to scare you. Are you okay? You seem stressed." Cece says, concerned.

"I'll be fine." I mumble.

"We need to talk." I say, walking across to the park.

"Yeah, okay. I know. What about?" Cece asks.

"Well, um... I- I think... maybe..." I trail off, not knowing what to say.

"You want to break up. Don't you?" She asks bluntly.

"Yes, sorry." I say.

"Your amazing, smart and really funny. The problem isn't-" I start to explain.

"Oh please! Don't start with all the 'it's not you, it's me' crap. At least be honest with me. You owe me that at least!" Cece snaps back, shocking me.

"We both know why this relationship was never gonna work out. Cause you love Annie." She states as I try to interupt.

"Before, you try to explain, don't. I've seen the way you look at her. You have never and will never look at me that way. You can't choose who your attracted to." Cece says, forcing a small smile.

"You love her. Go, tell her that." Cece encourages.

"It's not that simple. She doesn't want to talk to me. I doubt she cares about me anymore." I say.

"Oh my god Ty! What is this? A soap opera? I'm sure if you just talked to her you could sort things out." Cece says, raising her voice.

A few people give us a weird look as they walk past.

"I gotta go, Ty." Cece states, squeezing my hand in hers.

"I just want you to know, I was probably going to fall in love with you, so you choose a good time to end this." She whispers kissing my cheek.

"Good luck, Ty. Friends?" She asks, looking up at me hopefully.

"Always." I promise, pulling her into a tight hug.

"Goodbye Tyler Townsend." Cece says walking away.

"Goodbye Caroline Matney." I watch her walk away, sad and sentimental about the time we spent together.

I wish I could have loved her. I just can't. Not when my heart belongs to someone else.

Someone who wants nothing to do with me.

On Wednesday morning I arrive at school, to see Luke running up to me with coffee and a paper bag from McDonald's.

"Don't drop it!" I laugh as he sprints up to me.

"Here you go." He smiles, before calmly passing me a cup of coffee.

"Thanks. How did we get such a great friend?" I grin as he passes me an egg and bacon McMuffin.

"Luck of the draw I think. There we go." Luke says passing Gabe his coffee.

"I got my thousand steps in, and bought breakfast!" Luke laughs proudly, as we walk through the halls.

* * *

"See you at the party later!" Luke yells as I grab my bike.

"Yeah, see you then!" I yell back. It still felt kinda weird not calling Cece after practise or texting her when I woke up.

As I arrive at the party with Gabe later that afternoon, music is blasting from the stereo, and I hear a voice yell, "Hey, Townsend!"

A few of the Baseball boys wave me over, summoning me further into the crowd.
