Annie's POV:
Blinding light streams through the blinds of my small hospital room. I wake up happy, having had the first nightmare-free sleep in a long time.As I sit up and look around I hear a knock on the door.
"Hello?" Nurse Sara asks.
"Come in." I say as Mum stirs awake on the chair beside my bed.
"Good morning ladies." She says as she sets down a tray of cereal.
"Breakfast is served." She says.
"I don't really eat breakfast." I say sitting up properly.
"Correction, you don't really eat. We talked to your friend Tyler when you first came in and apparently he has noticed you haven't been eating." Nurse Sara says.
"Now, I know it will be quite a challenge to eat a proper meal again for the first time in a while. But if you don't eat you will have to be feed through a feeding tube." She tells me as I lay back down.
"What else did Ty say?" I ask, changing the conversation, after Mum goes to the bathroom.
"Not much, he was pretty torn up. He cares about you a lot." Nurse Sara says smiling, as I try hiding a small grin.
"Anyway, the doctors and nurses have been reviewing your case and we believe you have an eating disorder called anorexia nervosa." She allows me a moment to comprehend what she is saying before continuing.
"Anorexia causes people to obsess over what they eat and their weight. People with anorexia have a distorted image of their body and an unwarranted fear of being overweight-" Nurse Sara continues but I can't listen.
I knew something wasn't right, but... an eating disorder? Putting a label on it makes it sound so much worse than I thought it to be.
"-and... you're not listening." Nurse Sara laughs.
"Sorry. Continue." I say, giving her my full attention.
"It's okay. As I was saying we have already talked to your parents about this and we believe that you should see a therapist. Not only to help with the anorexia but also to talk about the car crash." She explains as Dad walks into the room.
"I've realised that the car crash hasn't been talked about enough so I think talking with a professional should really help." Nurse Sara explains as Mum walks back in.
"Also you need to start eating enough food again. The lack of a proper diet has meant that a lot of things like your digestive system haven't been given enough nutrients as they need." She starts to stand up whilst speaking.
"Because of your injuries you will be on a few different medications to handle any pain or side-effects." Nurse Sara says, wheeling over a trolley.
On top of the trolley are heaps of little containers that I bet contain enough medicines to rival an elderly persons medicine supply.
"Fun..." I mutter as I reach for a glass of water.
* * *
"Dad? Why did you stay away so long?" I ask Dad as he pushes my wheel chair, holding my hand.
"Your Mum needed time to think. Sadly, I don't believe she came up with a decision that rules in my favour." Dad sighs, smiling half-heartedly.
"Why did you cheat?" I ask bluntly.
"I honestly don't know. Me and Dana were fighting all the time and... I don't know kiddo. It is the biggest mistake of my whole life. And I will try for the rest of my life to apologise to your Mum" Dad says as we arrive back at my room.
I give him a small smile not having the energy to get sad or angry that he could betray us so easily.
"I missed you a lot Dad." I say a tear rolling down my face.
"I missed you too Annie." Dad says as I hug him.
