Miss On-A-Mission

Annie's POV:
My ears perk up at the sound of voices before my eyes open.

"They look so cute. I don't want to wake them." I hear Mum whisper, my eyes still closed as my mind comprehends what is happening.

I feel asleep. In Ty's room. After getting back together with him.

I try not to smile as I hear Maddie talking. "Let's wake them up later."

The door closes quietly as I open my eyes. Ty is still asleep beside me. A peaceful smile rests across his face.

I watch as he tiredly starts to wake up.

"Mornin'." He whispers holding my hand.

"Morning Ty." I reply softly as I start to sit up, but he grabs my waist and softly pulls me closer to him.

"We have to get up." I laugh.

"No one knows we are awake. Please lay back down. We'll be able to just chill before the interrogation." Ty says as I lay back down.

"Good idea." I smile, cuddling close to him.

I awkwardly walk down the stairs, hearing Maddie and Mum chatting in the kitchen.

"I'm feeling a little stressed. We have one more week to pull this wedding together, but overall I feel out-of-this-world happy." I overhear Maddie tell Mum.

"One week? Jeez." I hear Ty laugh as he takes my hand in his and walks me through to the kitchen.

"I believe we all just need to stay calm and have a little faith." Mum smiles before noticing Ty and I.

"You two look awfully cosy." Maddie laughs as I feel my cheeks burn a bright red.

"We are both in full support of this relationship." She says, hugging me.

"Thank you." I whisper back as she kisses us both on the cheek.

"You are always welcome in our home." She reassures as Helen bursts through the front doors.

"And good morning to you Miss On-a-mission." Mum laughs as she walks into the kitchen.

"I have talked with Erik and we have decided to try and have a baby together." She says, out of breath, as I hear Mum gasp.

"If you are joking, I swear to the Lord Helen Decatur-" Maddie starts to say before Helen cuts her off.

"I am completely serious." Helen assures as I hug her.

"You're going to have a baby!" Mum calls out as Maddie, Ty and Mum join the hug.

A few days pass until I see Jackson again, walking down main street wearing his token worn-out jeans and t-shirt.

"Jackson! Jackson!" I yell, almost running to catch up to him.

"Annie, what's the problem?" He turns around sharply, a slight bitter edge to his voice.

"The problem? You're one of my best friends and you won't even talk to me. I'm sorry that we have different feelings for each other, but I can't control who I fall for." I start to get angry.

"I don't deserve for you to hang this over my head. Isn't it better that I told you the truth and didn't trap you in a fake relationship?" I ask, my hands on my hips.

"Yeah, it feels great being rejected." Jackson spits back sarcastically.

"We used to be such good friends. I miss that." I say softer.

"I know. Me too." He replies calmly.

"Would it be so hard to be like that again?" I ask hopefully as I see a mix of emotions splash across his face.

"I don't know Annie. I'll think about it." He says, his hand on my arm, only for a second, before he continues walking.

As I recount the events of my day to Ty while he's searching for a movie, I hear the front door open.

"Hey kid. Oh hi Ty." Mum says as she places the grocery bags down on the kitchen bench.

"Hey Dana Sue. How was your day?" Ty asks as I continue his movie search.

"It was pretty eventful, but good. Helen and Erik met with a fertility specialist today and now I'm just waiting to hear from her." Mum explains, unpacking the bags.

"You know what, would you like to stay for dinner Ty? We are going to have heaps of food, and it would be nice to have some more company." Mum smiles as Ty grins.

"Sounds perfect." He comments as I pray Dad won't be here.

"Your father will be home in an hour Annie." Mum states, as if she read my mind.

"In advance, I'm sorry." I say turning to Ty, who just smiles reassuringly.

"I am amazing at charming parents, don't worry." He insists as I hope he's right.
