Ty's POV:
I stand behind the tree, stunned. What just happened?I stay behind the tree untill I can hear the school bell starting to ring.
* * *
I mindlessly wander through classes.
"Dude! What's up with you today?" Gabe asks, playfully punching my arm, as we walk out of school.
"I don't know. I've had the weirdest morning." I mutter, my mind very hazy.
"Hey what's up?" Luke asks, jumping over a bench to get over to us.
"I'm tryna figure that out." Gabe responds.
"Fine. I'll tell you guys but you can't tell a soul. You are gonna take this to your grave!" I make them promise, the guys nodding.
"Ok..." I started by telling them about our fight yesterday, then how we almost kissed.
I tell them about pulling her behind the tree. I tell them the whole conversation.
"-Then she said 'No, Ty! Not after years of loving you.' Then walked off." I finish.
After Gabe and Luke share a confused glance Luke asks. "Wait love love?"
"I don't know I haven't talked to her yet today."
"Well, do you feel the same?" Gabe asks.
"I don't know!" I yell in frustration, kicking the metal fence next to me.
"When you're with her what do you notice?" Gabe asks, as if he is some licensed marriage therapist.
"I see her smile. Her beautiful laugh. Her creativity. How smart she is. How brave she is. How strong she is. How happy I feel around her. Her long wavy hair she spent years growing out. Her big brown eyes. Her pink lips. Her. I see Annie Sullivan." I say as I feel the world melting away and imagining her in front of me.
"I don't know what love feels like but I could try, for her." I confess, imagining Annie's big curious beautiful brown eyes looking into mine.
Her hand in mine. Her breath across my cheek.
"Wow. Ty, that was beautiful!" Luke laughs, pretending to faint.
"Shut up." I say playfully punching his stomach.
"Tyler Townsend. Go tell that girl what you just told us! Go!" Gabe nudges me away.
"Yeah! Go get yo girl!" Luke laughs, pushing me towards the school. I quickly run up to the building, trying to find her.
It doesn't take too long, she's at her locker putting her stuff away. I'm about to call out her name, when I hear another voice. Then I see him.
Simon Spry leaning against the locker next to hers. I guess he made a joke, because Annie laughs her gorgeous laugh, as my heart breaks, and then she sighs. "Oh Simon, you're hilarious!" Then she closes her locker and I almost had a chance to catch her eye.
But I don't. I stay out of sight. I let her walk with Simon side-by-side, out of the school, down the street and out of sight, as I stay hidden, heart broken.
As I trudge out of the building to Gabe and Luke, they obviously saw Annie and Simon.
"What happened?" Luke asks.
"I obviously took too long to figure out my feelings. I was too late." I sigh under my breath.
"Oh! Buddy!" Luke exclaims as Gabe slings his arm around my shoulder.
"Sorry dude."
"It's okay." I say as we walk home.
But it's not. Its not okay. My heart is currently torn in pieces! How can anyone be okay?
I flat out avoid Annie and Simon for the next couple of weeks. Sadly I cannot avoid them completely. But I don't utter a word to either of them. Whenever I see Annie walking down the hall, I kiss Cece on the cheek.
Gabe was totally right. This isn't going to end well.
