Annie's POV:
Maddie has heaps of magazines and notebooks filled with scribbled notes laid out on the porch coffee table when I wake up in the morning."Morning, what's all this?" I ask as I pass her a cup of coffee.
"Thanks. This is wedding planning. I wanted to get an early start." She explains as I sit down beside her.
"Okay. Location?" I ask.
"Maybe the church. And then we can set some tents up in the town square for the reception." Aunt Maddie suggests.
"Sounds nice. Guest list?" I ask as she sighs.
"TBD as you kids would say. I'm waiting for Cal to finalise who he wants to be there." She explains as I hear Katie running down the stairs.
"A mother's work is never done." She laughs, walking inside.

Later that afternoon, I find myself out front my house. I take a deep breath before knocking on the front door.
"Door's open! Let yourself in." I hear Mum yell as I push the door open.
"Thank God I'm not a serial killer." I mutter as I walk inside.
"Helen if it's you, I'm still missing my cheese grater you borrowed-" Mum starts to laugh, walking out of the kitchen, to see me standing by the door.
"Annabelle." She sighs as a small smile forms on her face.
"I'm sorry-" I am interupted as she throws her arms around me and pulls me into a hug.
"I've missed you so much Annie." She cries kissing my cheek.
"I shouldn't have left. I'm so so sorry." I say as tears start to escape my eyes.
"It's okay. I'm just happy you're home." She replies smiling.
"Better you were at Maddie's house then on your own." She says, leading me into the kitchen.
"I was going to have someone over, but I'll go call to cancel." Mum says.
"The hot farmer? Helen told me." I smile as Mum grins.
"She shouldn't have told you that." She says.
"Too late now. I want to meet whoever has been keeping my mother sane lately." I say as Mum's grin grows even wider.
"You sure?" She asks as I nod.
"Positive."
"Okay. He is coming for dinner. Then Maddie and Helen are coming over after for margaritas." Mum explains as she prepares dinner.
"What are we having?" I ask.
"I am making shepard's pie. Even using Grammy's recipe." Mum smiles.
"Hopefully not burnt like Grammy's." I laugh as Mum kisses my head.

I look at myself in the mirror. I'm wearing a green t-shirt for some 80s band that Mum gave me and a denim skirt.
Am I too casual? Or am I too formal? What are you supposed to wear to dinner with your Mum and her boyfriend?
"Annie, set the table please." Mum yells from the kitchen as I pull my hair into a ponytail.
"Now." She yells again as I roll my eyes and walk out to the dining table.
"Doing it now." I say as I set the table with cutlery, place mats and condiments.
"Thank you." Mum says as I pour myself a glass of unsweetened ice tea, which is almost a crime around these parts.
"Want a glass?" I ask as she nods and we hear a knock at the front door.
