Time Machine

Annie's POV:
The cool metal handle on the passenger side door of Ty's car burns my hand as I pull the door open and sit down next to him.

The engine groans to life as Ty turns his key in the ignition. Silence is disturbed by the low hum of the engine as the car drives down the road.

"Should I text Kyle? Tell him we're gone. Oh god, I hope Maddie isn't insulted that we left." I ask nervously as Ty smiles gently and pats my hand.

"I told Mum that you needed some fresh air. She offered to help, but I told her to enjoy her party." Ty explains.

"Thank you." I reply quietly, my voice breaking slightly.

"What's up, Annie? I can remember a time when we told each other everything. Something is wrong, I want to know if I can help. Are you okay?"

"I miss my Dad." I admit.

"He's done some stupid stuff, but I guess a part of me still wishes him and Mum could work it out. I wish he could come home. I wish he never left." A few tears betray me, spilling down my cheeks.

Ty leans over and wipes the tears with his thumb, before lowering his hand and holding mine.

"I know how much you love your Dad, and for what it's worth I'm sorry." Ty squeezes my hand.

"You have nothing to apologise for." I smile as he glances away from the road and returns my smile with a half grin.

I stare out at main street as we pass the hardware store and Wharton's.

"Call your Dad. Maybe he could visit for a day or something. I'm sure you will hang out with him heaps over the summer, so much so you will want less time with him." Ty jokes as I let out a small laugh.

"Isaac is my half-brother." I sigh as Ty freezes and turns to look me in the eyes.

"Are you okay? Did you hit your head or something? What are you talking about?" He asks quickly.

"I'm fine, and of completely sound mind. My Mum told me, she is Isaac's Mum. He told me ages ago that he came to Serenity to find his birth parents. I guess he's found one." I say spitefully, even though Isaac has done nothing wrong.

"She never told me. Never. How hard would it have been? One damn conversation." I spit, frustrated in Mum's betrayal of my trust.

Ty decides to park the car, coincidentally he ends up parking outside of the Corner Spa, and after a moment of silence he turns to me.

"That's insane. Do you know who the father is?" Ty asks, his eyes scowering my bitter expression.

"No. Mum refuses to tell us. Now you know the reason I slept over at your house." I explain as Ty's hand pulls my hair away from my face.

"I'm so tired of all this constant stuff happening. I just want a little peace and quiet!" I laugh as Ty fiddles with a strand of my hair.

"Everything will be better soon. I promise." He promises as I look at the boy I would break my heart for a million times so he could be happy, and I can see in his eyes that he would do the same for me.

I shuffle closer to him, hiding in the comfort of his hug. My eyes close as my head rests against his chest.

"Wish time travel existed." I mutter under my breath as he chuckles out a small heartfelt laugh.

"I'll get to work on a time machine."
